It's a blue screen of death all right, It could be a general protection fault, caused by a driver error or conflict, windows shuts down to prevent further damage. have you installed anything recently? and which OS? This one looks to be something to do with your sound drivers.

If you can boot up and get to a screen with a few options on it, could be worth trying that and chosing "Last known configuration", other options if you can get in via safe mode then roll bakc the audio driver. If you can't get that far you may need to boot with the operating system CD and try and do a repair.

  • Are you using a separate sound card or is it an on board one? If it's a separate e.g. PCI card, then it might be worth disabling your on board sound card in your bios.

As the other posters have suggested it looks like something to do with the audio drivers. does the blue screen come up all the time or is this the first occurence?

Did it just appear spontaneously, or as a result of you doing something?

If it's a seperate sound card you could also try pushing it into the slot, as they can come loose, before rolling back the driver or installing new ones.
  • Yes, it is driver related.

Does this happen every time you boot, or has it just occurred once?

Can you get to the Windows desktop successfully?
