Norton came free with this Packard Bell PC, it's uninstalled and disabled. Maybe traces of it still remain?
I think I can remove IEXPLORE.EXE with Hijack This?
The top bit of the Log File is
"Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1
Scan saved at 19:01:49, on 17/06/2006
Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)"0 -
that top bit is fine, your version of windows is up to date
this Norton tool should remove it properly for you

do you use Trends firewall or sygate ??
I would uninstall the one you do not use
you can remove that line I highlighted with Iexplore.exe by running hijack this and ticking that box then let it delete the entryEx forum ambassador

PC Cillin was installed as a trial version, I'll uninstall that. I use Sygate.
Thanks for the reply. My CPU is still 100% most of the time according to Task Manager, should I be concerned?0 -
this might cure some of it, see what it looks like after you have done this, there are a load of things that start up as soon as you turn the PC on, we can look at them afterwards, i'll tell you how to look at tehm by using a tool on spybotEx forum ambassador

You're right, the CPU is going less crazy now I've uninstalled PC Cillin.
Thanks for helping out.
If you could talk me through the Start Up tool on Spybot that would be great.0 -
to get into the start up manager on Spybot start the program
click on "Mode" at the top and then make sure it is set to "Advanced"
go to the bottom left and click on "Tools"
click on "system startup"
you should get a screen come up with all your start up items, to see what each one is you need to go to the yellow bar at the side near the sqare yellow box full of dots and two black arrows pointing to the left and drag that line over towrds the left so you can see the text
this will tell you what most of the processes are and if they are required on start up. Untick the ones that are not required (this does not delete the entries so if you have a problem you can go back and re-tick the required one)
then close down spybot and restart the PC and see how things are then

Thanks, I'll have a tinker with that. Relieved to know my pc is clean and behaving normally, was beginning to sound like a hair drier with the CPU running at 100%.
Hate to repeat myself, but it's very much appreciated, Browntoa.

Had this the other day with a customers machine, allthough i used every tool under the sun to remove it , it kept coming back found it was a service that was runnin , but was a genuine service that had been hijacked , when your cpu was at 100% was the file doing it called CLML service or similar.(something todo with Packard bells own Media Centre by Cyberlink) ? if so find that application and change the name of the file ,your machine does'nt need it and it fixes the 100% problem. Hope this HelpsIf it doesn't fit, force it; if it breaks, it needed replacement anywaySarcasm helps keep you from telling people what you really think of them
