What makes you think that is the case?

The OP has received a default, then the OP must have been named on the account with BG.

In fact the OP states the opposite to your supposition in his draft of the letter

I never read the OP for ages, you'll see I responded a month ago and carried on from that - thanks for pointing out the fact the OP's name is on the bill.

Ok, so all the OP does is send a prove it letter and demand BG prove they owe the debt, in the meantime complain to the ICO and demand removal of default until such time they prove the debt belongs to the OP and is just.

Its easy to get it removed cos they wouldn't have taken a signature to share data and DPA, in line with the DPA 1998. I'd be looking into s.10 cease & desist unless they start to cooperate or prove the OP does owe the debt, to include readings and bills to date.

...Ok, so all the OP does is send a prove it letter and demand BG prove they owe the debt,.. .

    What's that?

The supplier has the customers name. The supplier has the meter readings proving what was consumed. The supplier sent a bill ... which by the sounds of it wasn't paid, at least in full. The fact the OP appears to have paid (to the best of his knowledge) some of the bill acknowledges the debt exists.

Edit: As the OP signed up here on 02-12-2009, started the thread on 04-12-2009 and hasn't been back since 06-12-2009, I guess it's all acedemic now anyway
