My computer keeps looping

Hi...can someone please help

My son was on our main computer ( I'm on hte laptop writing this) when it just froze and shut down
I have tried rebooting it in 'safe mode' and 'last known working config' but to no avail?
I also installed WINDOWS RECOVERY CONSOLE but for some reason this wont let me log in using the administrators username (could this be because we have 2 admins on there?
I can get as far as the windows sign coming up for a couple of seconds then a blue screen comes up with something written on it for about half a second ( so I cant read what it says) and it starts the whole thing all over again
Sorry this is a bit long winded and I would be very thankful for any help or advice you can offer
Thanks
If you dont ask you dont get!!

Which version of Windows are you using?

It could be that a critical file on the hard disk has been damaged. I remember seeing something like this a few years ago on a machine with an AGP graphics card when one of its files was damaged. You may need to insert your Windows CD and repair your installation. If your Windows CD doesn't match your current installation - say you have an XP SP2 disk but have updated it to XP SP3 - you may need to create an updated version of the CD, a process known as slipstreaming.

There are programmes that will alllow you to change the administrator passwords, but that could have consequences. It might be better to try something like Ophcrack. I haven't used it myself, but it looks promising.

If you've a camcorder or webcam for your laptop, how about pointing it at the PC and recording it booting? You could then find out what the error message is.

You could always try the Blue Screen Viewer to analyse the crash dump (if any): http://nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
