Talk me out of paying UkPc fine

I was ticketed for parking in a hatched out area of a supermarket car park last week - for some reason the last space in each row is hatched over (probably as it's too small for big cars), so I wasn't causing any obstruction.
I've now received the usual official looking letter, from UKPc stating a £70 fine, reduced to £40 if I pay it by next Monday, and threatening me with debt recovery agencies and added costs if I don't pay it. The letter has a photo of my car at the time of the offence, although you can't actually see the hatched lines I was parked over in the photo.
I know the advice here is to ignore the letter, but as I definitely was parked in a hatched space, and actually went to the bank rather than the supermarket, I'm feeling quite nervous about it as it's not really an unjustified fine, and £40 isn't unaffordable.
Is it any different that I parked in an unauthorised parking spot rather than overstayed the time limit? Has UKPc ever gone through with their threats of taking you to court? When I start getting letters from debt recovery agencies, how scary are the sums of money they will be demanding?
Thanks

1st its not a fine, its just a request for a donation of £40.00 to their xmas fund. Like all requests for money its up to you if you want to pay. If you don't feel like giving them a happy christmas then do not contact them in any way. Totally ignore them You'll get a few begging letters, a couple of threatening ones and then a ""solicitors"" letter and a ""debt collectors"" letter. Each will get more threatening and each is as easily ignored as the first. If you do feel like giving any money to them, don't send a donation to your favourite charity, you know it makes sense.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Just ignore. All road markings on private land (including disabled and P&C) bays) have no basis in law. And, by the way, it's not a "fine" (only the police and councils can impose those) it's an unenforceable invoice.
You might get a few letters, ignore them and eventually they will lose interest in you. Another point, don't confuse debt collectors with bailiffs. The former are private citizens with no powers, the latter are appointed by the courts, But they only come into play if you are taken to court (very unlikely) you lose ( very, very unlikely) and you refuse to pay whatever the judge orders. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
I know the advice here is to ignore the letter, but..
I have to say, I find posts like this quite baffling. You know what the advice will be - ignore, ignore, ignore.I'm feeling quite nervous about it as it's not really an unjustified fine, and £40 isn't unaffordable.
It is an unjustified fine, and actually £40 isn't unaffordable for many, many people.0 -
You're confusing 'justified' with 'enforceable'.
Would it be as justified and as enforceable if they wanted £500? Or £10,000?
This is a mail scam. Ignore as you do with Nigerian scam emails.0 -
You haven't committed any offence, you have not received a fine. Read this sticky, the bit about private parking charge notices:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...html?t=1363571
Then if you need convincing further that you must IGNORE this scam ticket and letters which will follow, read all the other threads on this sub-board (just click on 'parking fines, tickets & parking' above (a blue link just underneath the orange BANKING SAVING tab, top of this page).
Then just relax and spend your money on Xmas pressies instead.
:T PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Don't get me started...........No, too late!!!!!!!
Why do people post things like......
I know 5000 people on here have told me not to pay it, and no one has ever been successfully done for not paying, and I know they don't know it was me because the car was registered to another name/address, and I know my case is no different from the hundreds of other ones posted on here [that I can't be bother to read]......
..but I've received a ticket from Thicko Scammo Private Parking Company in Tecso car park and I was wondering if I should pay it?0 -
