Hi, i think you need to check price every now and then as they change constantly especially low cost airlines. i managed to book 4 flights to lanzarote for August for £340 all in,( over £200 each now) and paid about £400 for an Hotel. just need to hire a car.0

Thanks again to everyone who has kindly helped.
I am going for the appartment I mentioned below, and this just leaves the flights to book. What do people think? Get them booked straight away and out of the way, or hang on for a while and just keep an eye on the websites to get a better price?
Thanks,
Duncan

Just a quick note - the timing of your booking can make a HUGE difference. For example, last year I searched in December for a single room for the following May in my favourite Ibiza hotel and it came up at around £300. I looked again mid-March and it was only £90 for exactly same dates!
Just looked again ready for next May, dates I want are coming up about £490, boo - so will wait until March again and hope their prices dive again.
One other point - last year a few weeks before I went, a similar hotel that I have been to myself became available for the same period for only £27 HB for a week! I consdered booking it in addition to my first booking, just to spend a couple of nights there, but couldn't be bothered with travelling from one resort to another (was quite far).
However all these bargains were for single rooms which perhaps these hotels struggle to fill...
Two points I'm making here really: If you are prepared to take the risk and wait, there can be some amazing bargains to be had. However the more people you are travelling with, and the more precise your requirements, both in terms of dates and locations, the more likely you are to end up disappointed.0 -
I've just been through and clicked thanks to everyone on this thread. I really appreciate all of the brilliant advice. I have now booked the week at the start of August, in an appartment (£670.00) and the flights (£307.00 total for the 4 of us). So, with the taxi (or hire car, not decided yet), it's going to come in at around £1100.00, which is £500.00 LESS than I paid last year to be cramped up in a room in a Hotel in Ibiza. I am really pleased, so a big thanks again to everyone who gave me suggestions. I don't think I will ever walk into a Travel Agents again in my life!

Hello,
I am going on holiday a week today then, and just thought I'd pop on here to get some last snippets of advice to put my mind at rest!
I'm flying with Ryanair and think I have done all the correct things to avoid extra charges (booked in on line yesterday and printed out the relevant stuff), booked the car in for a week at the airport parking place, got the euros changed. Still need to get the travel insurance, so will sort that tomorrow. Anyway, I'm babbling, if anyone can see any glaring omissions I'd be grateful to hear! (this is the first time I've sorted everything out on my own).
Cheers.

Hi duncan32, have you "checked in" for your return journey and printed boarding passes for this? This is best done before you go if you can - i think its anything from 15 days before the day you fly (home).
Passports? Plenty of time left on them?
If hand luggage only, all liquids in 100ml bottles or less, and check weight and dimensions for bags.
Definately get travel insurance ASAP. I can tell you from personal experience (my holiday in 2 days could be down the pan) that you should have it as soon as you book! If i hadnt i would be at risk of losing all my money if we do have to cancel.
Thats all i can think of right now, as i am a holiday newbie myself, and have done diy _pale_
Good luck!Everyone who thanks me when ive helped will get a 5% share when I win this weeks Euromillions......:p0 -

I go on holiday alone (because nobody loves me:() and I would never book a single room. Most hotels don't have many singles and they tend to be the nastiest rooms in the worst part of the hotels. Search a double and you will have a much much bigger and better choice of places, it usually doesn't cost much (if anything) more and you never know when you are going to make a friend on holiday
I like going to Spain for few days over Christmas to get away from the bad weather, bad TV and festive misery over here. I have just booked my flight last week as I know from experience that once September comes, the nights get darker and the weather colder, people will start to think about a mid-winter break and the airfares will start to rocket. An Easyjet flight to Malaga, Ibiza or Plama de Mallorca booked in November or early December can be more expensive than a flight to New York.0 -
If you do decide to hire a car, make doubly sure your insurance covers the excess.
Have a great holiday.0
