Contact these people to see if they can remanufacture/refurbish the fuel pump:

    http://www.bba-reman.com/catalogue/Products.aspx?category=231

If the can fix it they should be able to give you a price to do so. As an example my Dads old Merc A-Class had a faulty air mass meter. Because an ECU is combined with the meter, Merc wanted £1,200. We had a garage dismantle the meter, store the car whilst the meter was being refurbed, and refit the meter for £120. BBA reman charged £300 for refurbishing the meter.

I've used BBA for s duff speedo head and they come back still broken. Not happy.

However, yes the fuel pump on the GM stuff is deal.
  • Bro in laws Corsa diesel pump was around £850 to get refurbed. I believe the engine had to come out? (dont quote me on that though).
    Place in Fife up here.

Try your local Independents and ask where they send diesels to for something like this. They probably know the best one locally.

Just to add, it'll be a different engine anyway but i'd imagine once a vauxhall diesel pump, always a vauxhall diesel pump.
  • Thanks again everyone but as we have been quoted so much I got in touch with a few independents and they all say the same our car year and the make/model is the most expensive the pump can't be refurbed it has to be new!!! £1400 just for the pump before VAT! so we have buged the car on ebay as a non runner, got a bid on it already so heres hoping it sells and we can put the whole sorry episode behind us!

I wish I had spotted this thread earlier, the pump is most probably repairable, it is generally not the pump itself that fails but the ECU on the top. As for BBA-reman, it probably sound like sour grapes as they are a competitor of mine but I would be very wary of them.

To the best o my knowledge BBA-reman repair only a few (if any at all) modules in house. In my experience all the modules I have sent to them that have been repaired have been returned from companies other than BBA themselves. The automotive electronic repair industry is not a competitive every man for himself industry, it is so complex that you cannot survive without the help and advise of other professionals in the industry. I take approximately 3-7 phone calls a day from my "competitors" asking if I have information, wiring diagrams or experience with particular faults for particular vehicles. I am not always able to help but if I can I do. Likewise I will call my "competitors" 3-7 times a week asking for similar advise and nearly always get help from one of them. BBA will not enter in to conversation and will simply say "if you can't fix it send it to us we can". Once I had a fault with a Renault Laguna dash which I was unable to correctly diagnose as I had no wiring diagrams or technical info but suspected had a faulty processor. I phoned all my "competitors" none of whom were able to help me. BBA claimed they could repair the dash so I sent it to them. later that week I took a call from one of the people who I had contacted about the dash asking if I managed to get any info because he had just received a dash exactly the same with exactly the same symptoms. I thought nothing of it at the time but just said I couldn't help. BBA called me later that day to say that they had tested the dash and it was beyond economical repair but if I owed them £30 testing fee and if I wanted the dash back I had to pay the £15 return post. I payed (grudgingly) but felt I could not bill my customer for this.

When I received the dash back I decided to have another go at repairing the dash myself so I called BBA and asked to speak to the engineer who tested the dash. I was told he was in the other building but he could pass on a message and he would get back to me. I simply asked if the engineer could provide we with a wiring diagram or some technical info claiming I had got some wires mixed up and needed to know where they went back. They called me back a few minutes later claiming the engineer had popped in and straight back out again but he had said he had no wiring diagrams or info on that dash and that if I found any could I forward them to him!!! If he had no info how could he have tested the dash??? If he did not test the dash what had I been charged for????

It later transpired during another conversation with my "competitor" that the dash he was calling me about had come to him from BBA reman, he had told them he was unable test the it so only billed them for the £15 return post!! Any mathematicians amongst us will have worked out that the £30 testing fee amounts to £15 carriage each way!!

This is not an isolated incident with this company. I have often gone to garages who have asked me to to help them with ECUs that have come from BBA. I have called BBA for support who have given me contact details for their engineer, only to find it is another company who are friends of mine and in no way connected to BBA.

Don't get me wrong though I know they have many satisfied customers so they must be doing something right. My advise if you are planning on using them is to shop around first. If you do decide to use them make sure they agree that if they are unable to test it you will not pay (although this will not stop them from claiming they have tested it and it is beyond repair).

    delambo,

Many thanks for your input. I used BBA as a satisfied customer and what you say is good advice and true.

Well I live about 10 miles from BBA, and in the interests of speed to get the car back on the road I had my local garage remove the air mass meter and I drove the unit to BBA. BBA work from Gillingham Business Park and occupy a unit amidst other tiny small units. I don't believe they have other "buildings" as all the other surrounding units were occupied with different businesses.
