Driving test - bay parking. A compulsary maneuver?

Is it true that when a DSA test centre has a car park space, one of the maneuvers have to be bay parking? :o

By the way, which two maneuvers did you guys do as part of your driving test?

Yes I would imagine so. It may not be compulsory but you will be expected to park safely wherever the tester tells you and if the centre has bays this seems likely.

I had to do all 3 manouvres so be warned whilst it is normally 2 you can be asked to do all 3.

you don't have to be asked to do a bay parking manouver, however if you are, you wouldn't also be asked to do a parallel park

there is a choice of 4 manouvers you could be asked to perform if the centre has bay parking -

    left reverse round corner
    turn in road
    parallel park
    bay parking

so - any two of those four could be given to you - as for being asked to do more than this, maybe you were unlucky anihilator....

as for me, having had to sit my test 3 times I'd covered them all (except bay parking as the test centre didn't have parking bays)

Just checked the local DSA driving test centre on google map (satellite/aerial view), it has parking bays.

Looks like there is a high chance of this manouvers being asked. More practice on this manouvers by the looks of it. :( I haven't learnt it yet, but will soon. It looks hard...

Didn't make you bitter though did it?;)

You didn't have to do parking when I took my test.

to sound like an instructor - bay parking isn't that difficult - honest.

Look at it this way, if you're asked to do a bay park at the beginning of your test, whilst everyone else is out stalling, trying not to speed etc, you'll be spending the first 5/10 mins going really slowly and carefully backwards into a perfectly parked position.

Knowing you've successully completed one of the two manouvers, you'll then be asked to leave the test centre for a short drive before completing your second and final manouver.

A short drive back and you'll be able to park up and give yourself a pat on the back.

I had my test at a centre with bay parking and I had to do a reverse park into a bay and a 3 point turn. This was last year.
The 3 manouvers you may have to do:

    Reverse park (bay or parrallel)
    Left reverse round a corner
    Three point turn

And they may also get you to do an emergency stop.

To be honest, I spoke to my examiner once I had found out I passed and he asked if they always use the bays instead of parrallel parking and he said yes but that doesn't mean you will definately have to do it because they may choose the other 2 manouvers.

When I was learning/passing there were three manouevres, and the examiner would pick two.

I had to reverse park (which was easy - you used to be allowed to go a cars length beyond the space you were aiming for - hardly realistic) and I had to reverse around a corner.

Naturally, I'm one of the finest drivers on Britains roads these days, but you'd never have known that when I passed my test - I got the most amount of minor faults its possible to get and not fail, plus I stalled it 3 times before I'd even left the test centre :rotfl: Amazing what nerves does to a normally steady clutch foot.

Assuming I've done one of the two manourvers, whch is bay parking, and done it well. When 'driving back' to the test centre, do they still assess you? Or do they only assess from the start of the test centre to other road routes?

Looks like there's a high possibility on doing bay parking then. Hopefully, I will do well on all manouvers, so no matter which one I get asked, I will do them well. :)

I thought stalling counts as a fault.:o

    The whole drive is assessed.

Do you not have a Driving Instructor?

Surely he/she can answer these basic questions.
