Hoping to complete by 31st December 2009????

:rotfl:Anyone else out there who was expecting to complete by 31st December 2009 to avoid stamp duty / VAT rise ????? and its just not gonna happen !!!??

Those towards the bottom of the chain tend to be buying properties under the £125,000 threshold so "they are alright Jack" - no rush for them !!!!!

Views of those in similar circumstances appreciated :rotfl:

The 28 day completion we were expecting is actually 56 days. I just have to close my eyes and stick my fingers in my ears and pretend that £1600 doesn't mean anything. :(

It gives us a bit more time to organise things I guess!
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
  • I've got 5 of these ongoing at work! Doesn't help that most of the solicitors will close for business on 23rd Dec and not re-open until January. Wouldn't mind, but it's the flipping solicitors holding things up in most cases.
Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.

    Do your own conveyancing...
  • Well I'm an EA, so don't have much say in the way people do it. It would certainly be easier if some had chosen better solicitors than the cheapest online one they could find.

  • We are first time buyers and bottom of the chain and we certainly don't have the "I'm alright Jack" frame of mind. I think that first time buyers' budgets and attitudes will vary depending on where they are in the country. We are in the south east.

We were given the option of free conveyancing with our mortgage lender but (as our SELLERS wanted a fast sale) we opted to choose a local solicitor so we could pop in if there were problems. We placed our offer on 17th November without so much as an agreement in principle and things have sped along from there. Now we're waiting for information from the sellers' solicitors. Still hoping to be in before christmas.

I am hoping to complete on the 18th, if not I have 3 working days to sort things out or I'll owe the gov £1300 for buying a house. I always thought stamp duty was a tax for rich people, turns out its just a tax.

No offence - sorry !!! It's our FTB that appear to be holding up our chain that's all.

Sounds like you are an EA ???
It hilarious really as completely different in our case - our EA nor the next one in the chain can get any response from the FTB EA (a very well known countrywide EA).
Seems like a case to us of if we don't tell them whats going on it will all go away!!

This is not meant to cause any offence to you as an EA either - its good to get reponses from Home sellers/buyers/conveyancers/EA.:T

Good luck then - yep although its 31st December deadline all the solicitors appear to be closing 23rd December and who can blame em !!

Our chain has been going since July and we really thought we would be moved and settled in by now - what a joke !!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl:

Same amount here ! Looks like the Treasury are going to be the only winners in this situation - if not them who gets our hard earned wedge ???!!!:rotfl:
