Curry queen Anjum Anand sells up...to find her perfect kitchen
By Mark Anstead
Last updated at 9:38 AM on 1st September 2010
Leafy Hampstead: Anjum Anand is selling her London home for £1.35 million'House prices in this area have gone sky-high again,' says Anjum. 'We want to take advantage of that by selling now and renting for a while. We will see how well my book sells and what happens to the property market before leaping back in.
'I would like a four or five-bedroom house in this area, but that would cost at least £2.5million now - far too much for us. But I think property prices might fall when the Government's spending cuts kick in, so if we wait until next year maybe it will be a bit cheaper.'We are struggling with a real shortage, particularly for top-end three-bedroom flats,' he says. 'For each one we take on we have 20 potential buyers on our books, and many will pay cash - City bankers are back in the market and sales are being agreed at more than £1,100 per sq ft, compared with an average of £950 per sq ft in 2007.
'I don't agree there will be much of a correction - prices may fall a bit, but they are more likely to simply stabilise because we still have such high demand in this area.'0 -

Village hall her ladyship couldn't even give away: Heirloom for sale at £600k because locals can't afford upkeep
By Ross Clark
Last updated at 3:50 PM on 11th October 2010'We had some artists thinking they should be allowed to have it for free. The only other suggestion we had was that it should become a curry house. Can you imagine how the neighbours would have reacted?'
The Fairhavens then applied for planning permission to convert the property into three four-bedroom houses, which was granted.
They have put the building on the market through Savills (01223 347147) for £600,000. 'It's very sad that it can no longer be used for what it was built for,' says Lady Fairhaven.
The family has already suffered the loss of Anglesey Abbey. After the death of the 1st Lord Fairhaven in 1966, death duties forced its sale to the National Trust.
Proceeds from the sale of Broughton Hall, which is held in a family trust, will go towards restoring other properties that the family own in the village of Kirtling, ten miles away, says Lady Fairhaven.

Selling our manor is easy... compared with being the life coach of troubled Kerry Katona
By Ruth Bloomfield

The couple, who made their fortune with a successful financial services company, have reinvented themselves as life coaches to the rich and (sort of) famous.
Their curious treatments include seating patients in the back of a vintage DeLorean sports car, so that they can travel 'back to the future' to confront past demons.

Our £100,000 'repo' profit: Retired couple expect healthy gain on country home they saw in the Mail on Sunday
By Duncan Farmer
Last updated at 6:01 PM on 6th September 2010Jean and !!!!!! Whitaker had just sold their guesthouse in Sidmouth, Devon, and moved into a rented home on the seafront at Budleigh Salterton. But after three weeks of retirement from the hotel business, they were bored.
So when, in January last year, The Mail on Sunday featured an article about more repossessed country houses coming on to the market, the couple were intrigued. One, Bramble House, in Honiton, Devon, especially sparked their interest. !!!!!! thought doing it up might keep them busy.
It had lain empty for more than a year after the previous owners, who ran a computer company from the house and annexe, fell behind with the mortgage. The house was being sold by their bank for £550,000.They knocked the price down to £500,000, but were given just seven days to exchange contracts.
