Getting sofa upholstery (unremovable) cleaned

I have a sofa that badly needs cleaning. It is an old, antiquey style wooden framed one with modern pale upholstery that stains easily - not difficult in a house with leaking children and enthusiastic dogs.
We sometimes get things through the letterbox offering deals on cleaning three piece suites and carpets, but all we have to clean is this one sofa.
Is there some equipment we could hire? What do people suggest?
p.s. This is not a candidate for pure elbow grease and scrubbing, lol! It is too disgusting looking now to just live with it, but it's a lovely sofa and very comfortable. I just want it looking nicer!
Thanks in advance for any advice

You could hire a carpet cleaning machine from your local dry cleaner. This is the machine they use to clean sofas.
JoeYou can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.0
