Buying Ipod from Amazon US - advise pls

Hi
Due to the stupid EU volume limits on Ipods, I am in process of sending my 160gb classic back to Amazon UK as product is 'not fit for purpose'
I am looking now to buy the same model from Amazon US as no limits seem to apply in America.
I assume I will pay tax when received into the UK?
Any other advise
Thanks

  • This link should give you a clear idea of what to expect to pay..

  • I'm not sure if you will get it from Amazon USA as they only send to a US postal address - it will probably prompt you to purchase it from the UK.

You would pay VAT and duty charges on the IPOD and a handling fee from the postal company.
  • How do warranties work if I have bought brand new from US ?
  • I think with Apple they only work in the country you have purchased them from.

Please correct me if I'm wrong..

    Apple warranties are international...

Still I'm not sure I get the OP regarding to EU limits... why is your 160GB not fit for purpose?

Apple warranties are international but you won't be able to buy an iPod from any Apple reseller in the USA.

They are not allowed to ship outside the USA......

Ship to someone in the USA and then on to you perhaps

I'm guessing the firmware volume limitation used in many EU market DAPs.

The volume limit is way to low. EU regulations mean that Apple have to limit it cause us Europeans might make ourselves deaf :T

The US dont restrict anything & as far as I can make out are 25% louder

^ Ahh I see, that type of volume. I just tried my Nano and honestly if I had it up full volume I'd be deaf in a week!

There is a option in iTunes for the volume limiter, in one of the tabs when you click on your iPod... (when it's connected).

The limited volume causes problems with low sensitivity earphones and drive the aux input in some car stereos.
