We spent a fortune when we were giving our kittens pouches.
We realised dry food was definitely the way to go - pouches are pretty much junk and just don't satisfy them. We're on Burns now which they like to eat, and I like to buy.
Ours still get a pouch in the evenings though - it's their treat, although nutritionally I can't imagine it does much for them!

I like to feed Jasper applaws but the only easily available ones are the adult cans, the nearest place for the kitten stuff is quite a drive so end up getting supplies at the supermarket.

When is it ok for a kitten to have grown up cat food? I'd rather not feed him a majority dry food diet but certainly would rather he was having a higer quality food. (not that he looks bad, lovely shiny coat, growing like a weed and a happy nature :) )

    Thanks for all the replies.

Just to update - I've upped their pouches and tried leaving some dry food out for them, but they just scoffed the lot straight away, whether they'd just eaten or not so I think I've just got particularly greedy kitties!

cats tend not to over eat like dogs do, they will stop if they're full, split the meals so they eat little and often, if they seem really hungry give them a bit more.
There are exceptions. my Mums kitten eats only dry food, and ate herself so chubbs, her belly was dragging the ground :o

On My advice Mum put her on a diet and she is now a new kitty!

Thanks, that's nice, for me to hear not for the kitty! :o I think I might be worrying about them too much.

I've seen a lot of people posting photos so here's my girls.

  • Aww bless, they are lovely - I've got a 12 week old kitten and I leave kitten dry food down all day and a pouch split between morning and evening - but she does tend to prefer the dried now her little teeth are coming through more!!

    Thank you!

I've ended up feeding them 3 times a day when I can. Half a pouch each in the morning, the same at night and biscuits during the day. I can't keep a supply of dried food down as they just eat everything they see. I think I've just got greedy kitties.

I keep water down for them though.
