Converting an existing extension

Me and my girlfrined are currently in the process of buying a house with a very large single storey extesnion (5.5m * 7.75m) built out into the garden. It was built twenty years ago and has been used as a dance studio (the vendor used to be a dance instructor). The extension has a large flat roof (slightly sloping), and double glazed windows ceiling to floor almost the full length of the garden facing wall. The roof seems to be insulated but i'm not sure if the two side walls are single or double skinned (I heard this may affect things?).
My question is, would it be possible to convert the extension into a kitchen/diner and an extra bedroom/study, whilst keeping a small full length sun room facing out into the garden? Any idea if I would have to seek planning permission to do this? If so, how easy is this likely to be?
Any advice welcome

i think its highly unlikely for you to have any problems there.
even if you do need PP for possible change of use.
(if it was me, id just go ahead and do it).Get some gorm.0 -
Agreed, its all internal work and you sound like your putting things in not taking things out so I'd just do it too, but if in doubt you might as well make the planners and building control earn their money. Give them a call and ask their advice. Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0

You won't need PP, but may need Building Control consent as it's a change of use. If you do involve the council they will definitely require the walls to be insulated, and they will check that the floor and ceiling insulation is adequate.
As the above poster said, give you local building control department a ring and ask them, they are normally quite helpfull - we pay their wages afterall with council tax.0 -
Thank you for your replies, i'll give the local building control department a ring , it doesn't sound as if its going to be much of an issue.0

Change of use involves Planning, not Building Control! But it isn't a change of use if it is part of a dwellinghouse. It probably shouldn't need Building Control to get involved for the purpose of 'conversion' either (like you would for converting a garage) if it is essentially already a livable part of the house.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
