Going to Cyprus for my hols - anyone got any info on things to do, such as historical sites, good beaches, walks, nice towns etc. Based in Paphos, but we have a car, so anything within about 100 km radius would be good.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hi Dasnookster we stayed at the eleni holiday village in paphos, and the tomb of the kings is only a 2 min car journey worth a visit and also the baths of aphrodite about 40 mins car journey but again worth a visit in my opinion. hope you have a fab holiday.0

Hi
Not stayed in paphos so can't help you on that one.
But we have stayed at the other end, Limmasol, Ayia Napa and protaras.
When we stayed here we hired a jeep and we drove to paphos for the day, i really enjoyed it.
So i would reccommend to you, to start our around 9.30am and get yourself on the motorway and go down to Limmasol, which would take you around 3/4 hour. have a drive around and see what is there.
Then get back on the motorway and get yourself down to ayia napa, then take the coastal road, bypassing cape greco and onto protaras. This would take you about another 3/4 hour. Nothing really when your in a car.
Then you could even go to paralimini and the look out point at Farmagusta. Well worth it.
Then a nice drive back home down the motorway should take you about 1 1/2 hours.
And there you have it you have seen most of the holiday resorts in 1 day.
Another nice day out is the capital Nicossia.
or even better get your car up the mountains.
i hope that you enjoy your holiday. Cause i will be doing this trip but in reverse as i go to ayia napa in sept and will be getting a jeep down to paphos for the day.0 -

Hi
I am also off to Paphos soon and have a few questions, is it expensive? What are the buses like etc (cant really afford to hire a car) and any good cheap places to eat out?
Thanks

Hi Ian,
Buses no problem during the day in Paphos lots of stops as well, didn't see many after 10! If you do want to go further afield for a change the guy in the town centre opp Debenhams might let you have a car for a single day, it's a lot cheaper to get one whilst you're there (lots of competition). Like all places the tourist areas hike up the prices, try and go to some of the villages much cheaper. Went to a really nice resturant on the main Phapos to coral bay road, get off the bus as it turns left into Coral bay and walk about 400 yds further up on the main road, it's on the right. Having said that there's loads and a lot of people end up in the resturants on the Tomb of the Kings Road (same one as above but Phaphos end) Fat Mamma's is very popular, the Thai is also good there but like the UK not the cheapest food option:beer:0 -
Dasnookster.
An absolute must to visit for a cheap, beautifully scenic restaurant is a venue called VIKLARI.
This could best be described as a derelict castle set high up in the hills with a spectacular view of the sea,it is not easy to spot as it is quiet low on the hillside with a roof of vines.
Viklari is no more than about 5-7 miles on the outskirts of Paphos, you just need to be patient to find it.
Head out the Tomb of the Kings Rd past Fat Mammas which is excellent, keep heading out past the banana plantations and after about 3-4 miles look out for a large coca cola advertising sign on the rhs of the road take the right fork just immediately before the sign. If you miss the turn off and go ahead then in about 2-3 miles you will run out of road and come to a harbour so you need to go back.
Bear with me !!!!! it is worth it I promise.
After having taken the right fork do not go off the this road keep going, after a short while the tarmac ends and the road gets a bit rough,if you have a 4wd then its no problem, for the last 2 years i've had a small mitsubishi 2 door car and managed it (not 4wd), just take your time and drive round the holes. at this point you think your totally lost and you'll want to turn back DONT. The road begins to get steep as it goes up the hill to Viklari.
The restaurant is privately owned and the food which is restricted to BBQ PORK/CHICKEN, proper bbq baked potatoes, beautiful salad, ice cold beers and chips, all for 5 cypriot quid. superb!!!!!!!!!!.
This is not at all touristy used by Cypriot families and the odd ex pat Brit.
I can assure you its well worth the visit.
Also out on Paphos harbour there is an excellent fish restaurant called The Pelican.
Have a great time

I can second this. It's a fabulous place to eat. Very cheap and scenic. Best food in the Paphos area. My wife goes for the salad alone!! (Glad I didn't have to do the directions!!)0 -
Hi,
I have just returned from 2 weeks in Coral Bay (next to Paphos) - lovely! We only got buses to and from Coral Bay so am not sure about anywhere else as we did get a car and a moped, but buses are 80 cent no matter where you get on and I think the last one from Paphos was at around 11.40pm. They run every 15mins.
Anybody having to get themselves to and from the airport in a taxi cost us 30 cyp each way. We heard that some people only paid 20 though so the taxi drivers defo try their luck!
As somebody mentioned in a post above about the car hire in Paphos opposite Debenhams, Savva and sons I think - we hired ours from there and he does seem quite reasonable although be carefull when he has told you the full cost he then adds on another 30 cyp for fuel!!!! We priced a few rental places to find that when they tell you final total cost they didnt inclued VAT which they will do when you agree to hire!
We did find Cyprus quite expensive in most things, we normally like to eat out for lunch and tea but here that would of been too costly so we just ate out for tea. In Coral Bay the resturant I liked the best was the Elephant, really nice food, very nice moden place, good waiter service and the price for a 3 course meal for 2 with 2 bottles of wine was around 35 cyp - cant complain for that!
I wasnt that fussed on the beech as it was the only sandy one round so therefore it got crowded.
We had a great time though and would defo go back!
To all that are going have a fab time!0 -
We've booked a luxury villa for over New Year in Cyprus for my Mum's 60th birthday which was a bargain (£1200 for 12 people for 1 week) but we're now finding it hard to find cheap flights. The cheapest I've found is £255 through BA. Can anyone suggest a cheaper alternative?
Flying from MAN, BHX, LTU on 26/27 Dec, returning 1/2/3 Jan
Please help!

You need to find a charter flight, not a scheduled flight. There are so many charter flights to Cyprus in the summer that you will find they are far cheaper.
Probably the easiest way is to go into your high-street travel agent. They do sell just flights, and they will search through all the available flights for you and be able to give you prices. There may be websites that search charter flights, I'm not sure, but it's very easy to get the travel agents to do the work for you. Go into 2 or 3, and see what each can find for you. Took me about 5 minutes in each.
To give you an idea of cost, we flew out to Cyprus last year in July and it cost us £120 return (each) on a Thompson flight.0
