Good Cars/ Insurance Companies for Young Drivers

I was hoping you could help me out!
I'm close to sitting my test and have been looking at a few cars but the insurance quotes are laughable.
My latest quote was a 1.1 Ford Fiesta (2002) and the quote for third party was over £3000.
I am a 17 yr old male and NEED to use my car after 11pm (the whole point of wanting to drive was for me to get to Scotland and back!) so the More Than scheme is out
If any of you know any good cars/insurance companies for me let me know (:
Thank you so much

1.0 Yaris was my first car, very very good motor. Old Mini. Anything else 1.0 and very boring but with ABS - micra?
Do you need your own car for now or could you still be the minority user of a parents?and the quote for third party
As have already posted today, Coverbox are another black box policy, but their more expensive charge time is only weekend evenings so you could give that a try - not fixed price either, just higher pence per mile.0 -
Take a look at Tesco Insurance, im a 17 year old male drive who passed in november driving an automatic 1.4L Vauxhall Corsa 1996 and my insurance only come to £2300 with my mum added as a named driver which brought the price down by a few hundred, even though they said it would make the price go up when I was talking to the sales advicer.
I have also herd that Quinn is quite cheap. I found that avoiding the price comparision sites worked best and going directly to the insurance provider worked out a lot cheaper.
Good Luck on your test!0 -
Techterry it's refreshing to find a 17 year old with the intelligence to realise that £2000 odd is a reasonable premium to pay for your first Insurance. It's also nice to see you did not try and get your parents to front the policy.
The good news is that if you keep your nose clean your premium will reduce massively next year, the bad news being it won't reduce much if anything if you have a claim.
We have all had to bite the bullet and pay a high premium on our first car.
So remember what your driving instructer told you about passing your test not meaning your a great driver but is acceptance you are competent to drive on the roads and for you to now actually start learning to drive. You never stop learning to drive and we all learn something new each day.
A good type is to not rush as this gives you plenty of time to check your mirrors and surroundings which gives you time to react to situations.
P.S You had a lucky escape as Quinn are really really poor0 -
My son had a very competitive quote from Churchill for his first year (£2200) and his renewal for this year has gone down to £1100 with a year NCB. (This is on a '99 Ford Focus 1.8 zetec - it's a long story why he has this car, but as you see, the insurance was not too horrendous)0
