Mmmm - I want some smoked fish too now, smoked haddock is easier than Arbroath smokies for fish 'n mash pie, and just as nice. Cheese and a bit of wholegrain mustard is lovely too, but it is perfect on its own. Our kids love haddock dishes too - they actually insist on haddock if we get a chippy tea!!!
Actually I often get DH to get the bones out of the smokies - suits his 'picky nature' lol :rotfl: (just joking - honestly!)
Well thanks for your post : I know what we're having for tea tomorrow night!!
Stop it now, you'll have me drooling at the thought of cheesey mustardy fishy mashy goodness!:rotfl:
Ok, I admit it, I already am! Enjoy tomorrow's tea and please send any leftovers to me!

Use it in cheese scones or pancakes with a savoury filling??
I've never done savoury pancakes but there's a first time for everything - I love the sound of cheese scones. I think I'll end up doing oniony milk just to make all these scrummy ideas - thank you!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

Savoury pancakes are a great way of making a delish dish using up tiny scraps of leftovers.....although it helps if you can master a basic white sauce!

Lots of savoury pancake recipes here. These are yummy , I simplify it though I omit the basil and the chilli and prefer butter not olive oil and just use ordinary mushrooms unless I can get the fancy ones as a whoopsie! (Not much of his recipe left really!!) Like loads of black pepper and garlic with it!

I'd have used some to make the batter for the onions :)

I'm having boiled onions with mash and cheese sauce tomorrow...I may try using milk to poach the onions and use it up in the sauce ...not sure whole onions would fel the benefit of milk tho.

Thank you Bronnie, I haven't had a savoury pancke since my childhood when i had an addition to the frozen ones! Some day when I'm feeling adventurous I'll give them a whirl as they are lovely.

Hi timmmers! I was following an easy recipe that doesn't need batter - you just soak the onions in milk and then dip in flour.

    It was my post!

    Well picture this.

Me standing in the kitchen plastered, dipping milky onions in flour , frying them and almost burning my mouth eating them as they came off the frying pan. It wasn't pretty but man they tasted good! :rotfl:

I would like to make them with a more substantial batter though :D Give it time, on my to do list :rotfl: OH I HAVE ONIONS! EEK !
