Redundancy, Tax credits help!

At the moment my DH works full time and I work PT.
We get help in the form of Tax Credits. DH is about to be made redundant and will receive a payout of about 5K untaxed and around another 5K which includes holiday pay and 9 weeks notice (which he is not required to work) this will be taxable.
My first question is when can he sign on and receive JSA (contribution based) as soon as he stops working or does he have to wait until his 'notice' has run out?
Secondly, I will be working 16 hours so we can get an increase in Tax credits, how much of his redundancy will be classed as income when working out our award?
Thanks!

Do you have children on your tax credit claim? If you do then as long as you work a minimum of 16hrs/wk you will still qualify for working tax credits. You will lose the 30hr element that you qualify for just now so your working tax credits could reduce (in theory) however as your household income has gone down that may increase your working tax credits. Best bet would be to call tax credit helpline and ask for an estimate of entitlement. When declaring your partner's income - you only declare the taxable amount.
I hope this helps
Oh and I am unsure about JSA - best givethe job centrea call if no one hereknows.
