Lots of the taxi boys round here use Skoda's, Superbs & Octavia's, all really like them.0

My OH has an octavia. When he trashed his Rover we looked around and did research as his car needed to be a workhorse....and boy, hasn't it been just that.
Like you, Albalad, we were also curious as to the reviews and hype surrounding skodas, but we bit the bullet, bought an octavia and have most definitely not looked back. Those reviews are true enough.
When my Ford Orion gave up the ghost last month i decided right away that I wanted a Skoda fabia. For me I needed something reliable and well built. I know that all cars have their issues but so far OH's Octavia has proved us with no problems despite putting 60,000 miles on the clock in less than 2 years!! Skodas do what they say they do.
My advice would be search around for the car that you want. We live in Lincs and the Octavia 1.9tdi slx we looked at locally at a skoda dealership was £1,000 dearer than an exact same one in Brighton. Therefore, for us it was cheaper to travel to Brighton to purchase there.
Also when I bought my Fabia recently I looked at one in Nottingham (the salesman didn't want to knock anything off the forecourt price so I promptly left), kept checking the skoda main website (i wanted to buy from a skoda dealership so I got a full 12 month warranty and 12 mth roadside assistance amongst other things) and eventually got one from Wolverhampton. I couldn't believe how quickly the Fabia's were selling. The minute I saw one go up on the site it was already sold. However, after lots of research and phone calls I got the car I wanted at what I believe was a brilliant deal.
Buy a Superb (i would if I could afford one, they are beautiful) and you won't regret the decision. I just wish there were more local Skoda dealerships locally but for me, the travelling and phone calls paid off and I'm very happy.
Good Luck Albalad and let us know what you decide to do.
PS. When I bought my Fabia I was told that they had loads of taxi firms running Skodas and one taxi driver had over 530,000 miles on the clock and it was still running absolutely fine. (I'm guessing though that was a diesel, but wow!)0 -
Owned a Octavia Ambiete for just over a year,60k on the clock when we bought it,83k now. We've been all over.55 miles+per gallon on fuel return
The only fault has been the wheel bearings needed replacing(just missed out on the warranty-doh!)
Buy one and you won't regret it.The Taxi boys choose 'em for a reason.0 -
I've had my Octavia for nearly a year now and wouldn't change it for the world. I've been all over the UK and continent in it and can't believe how well it goes. I originally had a Skoda Felicia which I loved but as it was the base model it didn't have power steering on it and I found it very heavy going round the multi-story car park at work. I then test drove one of the Fabia's shortly after they came out but didn't like it much. When I needed a new car last year I wanted a big economical car with loads of gadgets (yes I'm a gadget freak). I came to the conclusion it would be an Astra, Focus or an Octavia. I test drove the Octavia and that was the end of the story, I did a deal with the salesman there and then and haven't looked back since. I would recommend then to anyone. I love mine.0
