Returning item to argos.

Options
I bought a non-electrical item from Argos which is not exempted from the returns and refund policy I read on their site.

It came in a box inside a thicker carboard box which was taped up and had two thick plastic straps around it. I cut the straps and the tape on the thick cardboard box. The item in its own box had no tape or anything like that, just a lid.

Nothing has been damaged or marked or anything like that.

Would I still be able to return it and get a refund? I still have the receipt and its still within in the 30 day period.

Thanks.

  • If it is within their 30 day period I don't see why not. Presuming that you had no option but to cut the straps to see the product inside I don't see how they can expect it back still strapped up.

Yes, you will. I've always found Argos to refund with no problem. They usually take the item out and briefly look at it anyway.

  • I was a little concerned that since the item is in a box in a box with straps which had to be cut and opened, they might refuse to refund. I did take off the lid as it wasn't taped on. I've put it all back together now, minus the straps. Everything is in its original packaging and what not. Would they check to see everything is there? There's quite a few things in it. Its just I've changed my mind about it and I've never returned anything before* so I don't know what the procedures are for returns.

*(Well, I have - one was a recall so it was straight forward, the other was the wrong thing and I was swapping - two different places though, not Argos).

It might explain their policies on returns/mind change on their site?

  • I had a bad experience with Argos when they refused to take back a Dyson as we had taken it out of the box and opened a sealed bag. We repackaged everything but they claimed the item was not resaleable as the packaging (a small plastic bag that held the accessories) was damaged. We ended up selling the Dyson on Ebay in the end, luckily for what we paid for it.

It is worth trying to get the refund, but my advice is to try to make the packaging look as undamaged as possible.

Interested to know how you get on.
