How much to make a window?

Options
I've seen a house for sale, but the bathroom has no window. It is on an outside wall but it's end of terrace so I guess they just used the same plans as the inner terraces. There's no windows at all on the outside wall.

How much would it cost to have a window put in? I believe the wall is brick and cavity.

I know I don't have much information here but I really have no idea - 5k, 10k 20k? Some vague idea would be helpful.

Thanks.

To cut an opening, install lintel, Manufacture a casement/sash window will cost more than 1k if your in London.

If you get a builder to cut an opening, Install a cheap timber wickes jobby then you will get in for under 1k.

You will most probably need planning permission which you may not get. It will completely change the look of the terrace from the end and may be out of keeping with the style of terraces in that area. Have a word with the planning dept before taking things any further.

I would check with the local authority first, "most probably" seems overkill here considering how little information there is in the original post.

Assuming this is not a conversation area, and since you are not building an extension, you are just changing an existing building, then this might not be development at all, and so planning restrictions won't apply, just building regulations.

If it does count as development, they might let you have it anyway.

Does the proposed window look onto the highway or someone else's property? You might be able to have an obscured window.

Best chat to your local authority before throwing in the towel.
