Hi all,
My dd has a massive arachnoid cyst and has continous headaches, has had 13 ops in the last 14 months all shunt related, she has had vp shunts then craniotomy & fenestrations that havent taken the pain & pressure away so now has a va shunt which has recentley been changed to a programmable shunt due to nothing really working she only done 16% college last year & 2 days this year due to being so ill, & cant travel well & needs to lay down with only being up for a short while due to pressure in her head, feeling dizzy nearly fainting & her eyes black out.... she was on middle rate dla with no mobility when she was awarded two years ago, but her problems have worsened quite a bit, her renewel date was oct, & we sent off the forms in july, we still havent heard but I have called them on numerous occasions but the administration side of gosh hasnt sorted the apropriate forms out, so after waiting two months the dla decided to send the forms to my doctor, I know they received the forms from ther doctor on 25th nov & it was with the decision maker, I have called them again to see if they have made a decision yet, (has the dla & carers all stopped in oct as this was the end date) I have been told that the decisoin maker did not understand something & the forms have now been sent to the medical services for some reason, Im now thinking maybe the forms from the doc and the forms from the hospital have both got there around the same time, & are saying something slightly different from each other & they cant decide what is right was is not, or is this me just being paronoid!!!........ sorry to be so longwinded about this & was wandering if anyone else has been through a simular situation with the decision maker & medical services...... thanks for any help you can give...x

The medical services are there to (supposedly) help in the decision maker. IE, clarify more about the disability and whether it's reasonable for the person to have the needs they say they do.
Mine has been sent to the decision maker and they've said loads of things that are untrue.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

I think the more you call to find out what is happening the more chance there is of you getting hold of information that is either not quite right or doesn't tell you everything. That (when you are anxious) has a way of worrying you and letting you think of all sorts of reasons why things are going wrong.
It would be a much better option to wait for the decision letter and then take it from there. You will not spend the process up by calling so often, you just get yourself worried and even more anxious.0 -

Medical Services act in an advisory capacity only, maybe the Decision Maker was unsure as to how the illness or disability affects a person and needed an independant Medical opinion0 -

Hopefully you will hear something soon, DLA are not happy when people go out of payment, lots of questions are usually asked by senior managers!!!
If you feel you need to ring them, then do so, ring the helpline and ask to speak to either the processing manager or DM manager of the section that would deal with the claim.0
