Hi there,
My OH employment contract is not being renewed so he loses his job in about 10days.
What can we do? im starting maternity leave in a few months and i have a 2yr old.
I really dont want to lose the money towards her childcare as its impossible to find a really good provider round here!
He's already applying for loads of jobs but if none come up will he be entitled to JSA or anything? will we lose our tax credits?
Thanks

Hi Lauren,
Your childcare help from tax credits will end as nboth yourself and your partner must work a minimum of 16hrs/wk to qualify. When you notify tax credits his empl has ended they should apply a 4 week run on to your childcare costs (a little extra help).
If you receive working tax credits they should continue as you are still employed and your child tax credits will continue as you have a child. Fingers crossed your partner gets a new job soon.
Regarding JSA, I am not sure, hopefully someone else can help, or give the local JCP a call.

If he has been paying NI, then he should be able to claim Contributions-based JSA, this lasts for six months. If he does not have a job after that time, he can apply for Income-based JSA; this is means-tested and your salary and household savings will be taken into consideration in making the decision.
It is worth signing on as he will get his NI credited towards his Pension.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Thanks all

Gutted about the childcare
but if they let it run on for 4 weeks hopefully he will be back at work by then...
Will send him down the jobcentre, he's appealing the decesion at the moment as the reason they are not renewing is because of to much time of sick, rushing me to the hospital (ive been really ill recently) so it does seem a little unfair, but its just about money to them isnt it!
Thanks again, we will have to muddle through!Had my amazing little girlie 08/12/2007 - 11 days late! 9lbs 3oz
