Mobile Phone Insurance Claim

Hi All,

I recently dropped my phone therefore had to make a claim. With "lifestyle insurance group" via Natwest.

They accepted the claim and subsequently discovered that the phone was damaged beyond economical repair.
They have now called to make me an offer (their words) as they do not have my phone in stock.
The amount they have offered is the price of my phone in the 02 shop, which isn't too bad. But I don't want to buy a new one of those phones as I am due an upgrade in March anyhow.

I'm wittering on, basically want to know, can I decline their offer? Or will it be set it stone, as it is the price of the phone in a shop?
Just want more money for Christmas to be honest.

Your decision. It seems they can offer you the money. So you could take the money and purchase a cheap pay as you go phone for £20. Then wait until march. I would do that. Alternatively borrow a phone for the time being.

Why don't you accept the replacement, sell it on ebay etc and buy a cheap payg phone to tide you over until your upgrade

If you think the price is fair why are you wanting to reject it?

Isn't the point of insurance to replace or repair what you've lost or broken?
If you're looking for them to pay out more so you can get a better or newer phone then you're in the wrong.
If you're simply looking for them to increase your offer then you're entitled to that but if they're offering you the price you can replace the phone for, I don't see them increasing the offer.

If it was a car and you were offered the price to buy the identical model in a forecourt you'd probably take it.

I'd accept the offer then sell the phone.

But I don't see how your contract renewal will be affected by this. Unless you've been forced to sign up to a new one by making a claim. This is unlikely.
I'd have thought you have 18month contract. During that contract you've made a claim for phone replacement which is justified so you get the replacement.

Isn't it a completely seperate issue from your contract renewal??
