Who shops at several supermarkets?

This might be completly mad idea and quite hard work buy doable as I live in a city and have them all.

Easy for me to get to is

sainsburys
Large co-op
lidls
Somerfeild
Tesco metro
Iceland
Morrisions

How much could I save if I do them all?

Iceland deals used to change 4weekly but they dont have as much offers anymore, the round pricing means £1 but quantity is less.ok for branded frozen.

Somerefeilds deals used to change fornightly every wed not sure if co-op have same deals as they equally pricey but if I just shopped deals and reductions normall generous in co-op.

Lidls is ok for baiscs tins of tomatos and fresh fruit and veg.

Sainsburys is best for meat and fresh deals

Morrisions is stronger on frozen and grocery deals lots of bog offs but weak on meat and fruit and veg goes off before its date.

Tescos I dont find super cheap although its value items and offers are good, im limited as local tesco small.

Am I mad to do them all?Anyone else tried?

we were doing monthly but kept running out of fresh so changed to fortnightly but thinking in new year should do weekly.

The big question is will i save money? trying to drastically cut down on grocery amount.

how do you get to all these stores?

its possible any saving might be shaved off by petrol costs - I realised it was easier to stick mostly to one shop unless I happened to be in the area of another one.

We live rurally and I used to go all my shopping with Tesco Home Delivery. Couple of months ago I swapped to Asda as they had started delivering to my village and are working out much cheaper on our shopping regulars. My OH passes quite a few supermarkets to and from work so if there are any fab offers that of interest I ask him to swing past on his way home. ;)

A friend of mine shops at Sainsbury's every week and I tag along with her. She gets car sick so always has to drive (hmmm.... I wonder if it's really my driving that makes her sick), I love their 'whoops' section and often stock up the freezer if there's any decent meat or chicken on offer - our village butcher closed a few months ago due to retirement. :(
  • Do most of ours at Waitrose and Marks but we also have a Asda a Sainsburys (and Tesco Metro - which i try and avoid like the plague), will go to Asda around once a month to stock up on branded goods)

Well although some few miles i could technically walk to them all or take bus.
im just wondering if its worthh the hassle saving wise.

Am annoyed as let hubby do shopping by himself tuesday, he chose morrisions, spent £100 and dont have much to show for it as he brought no meat, asked for rice krispies hes brought coco pops, squash i dont like, lots of biscuits, crisps and chips!

what makes it worse is looked at morrisions website today as dispayed there offers with several good things i do like that he dident pick up!

I now need to go sainsburys for meat, lidls for fruit as hes brought seeded clementines my toddlers not amused.

I shop around - have a Co-op within walking distance, Sainsburys, Tesco, Lidl & Aldi 10 minutes drive away (and walking distance of each other), and an Asda & Morrisons 15 minutes past there - I plan the list depending on where we're going that week, what we need and where the offers are.

It works with the online shopping sometimes too - had Asda and Tesco deliver this Tuesday - even with the extra delivery charge I was over £15 better off over doing the whole shop with one of them :)

I tend to do the rounds (by cycle) of Asda, Sainsbury, M&S and Tesco (less so) during the week for discounted products, offers and own brands, but tend to concentrate on M&S, Asda and Sainsbury's at weekends. Tend to buy certains stuff from each, e.g. - Sainsburys for deli type food. Occasionally (because it's a hike), I'll visit Aldi for non-food stuff mainly. Now that a M&S Food Hall has opened up next to Asda its much easier for me to get round them both. Some people seem to be suprised when I say that I shop at both M&S and Asda - not sure why?

i know i work from them, and some will see this as biased, but i hope that comment about going off before their date is not aimed at the meat, i only ever buy meat from morrisons, as i know when it came in, and it is certainly better than the pre packed rubbish you get in asdas/tescos, if it is going off before the date then the butchers are doing something they should not be;)
Take every day as it comes!!
  • We live rurally too, and I like to shop at Sainsbury's. I pass tesco, morrisons and asda on the way there, and will check their websites for good deals before setting out. I then visit any of the stores whose offers appeal. I only do this every 2 weeks or so, and if I'm in the other local town for the library or shopping, I'll park at Morrison's (free to park) and walk to Lidl and Aldi as they are just along the road.
I tend to stick to a monthly budget/ meal plan (not rigid, just a case of we need x mince per month, x cheese per month etc) and so find this works really well, as I can buy what I want only when it's on offer (as far as is possible).
For Milk or bread top ups i just use Tesco as it's closer and any higher prices there will be made up for in lower diesel costs.

    It's only a game

  • We live rurally. There's a Lidl in a large village on the way to town, we go there first. Then park up in the town center asda, walk to the bank, and wilko's/iceland if I need them. Then the Asda shop, then back out to the trading estate to Sainsbugs, via morrissons if they have anything special on, and Tesco's lastly likewise.

I check mysupermarket before setting off to take advantage of any deals, and after the drive into town everything is relatively compact. :)

I find Morrison's fresh meat to be the best of all the supermarkets.
