Who shops at several supermarkets?

I used to buy meat from Sainsbury's thinking it would be better quality but it in my opinion, Morries sell the freshest and most competitively priced meat. I bought meat from Sainsbury's for Christmas 2008 and as it was a big piece of beef I cut it in half to freeze one half and use the other for Boxing Day but when I cut it it smelt awful and had gone off. I'd only just returned from the supermarket and it had days to go on the BBD. In the middle of the year i saw an 'unpassable' meat offer in Sainsburys (I'm a slow learner!) and once again, upon opening it, it smelt awful and was slimy when the packaging was removed. I won't purchase meat from there in future. I really like Morries turkey crown for Christmas lunch.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Forgot to add...i shop around! I have most supermarkets within a ten minute drive from where i live and if i know there is an offer on that i am interested in then i go to that store. For example a couple of weeks ago Morries did 30p fruit and veg, so I went with DD and we got loads of fruit and veg...then there was an offer on grocerys elsewhere and we stocked up on other items we were in need of purchasing. It pays to shop around IF you can hold on to your purse strings....if you are tempted to put extras in your trolley from every supermarket you visit then you are going to spend extra money rather than saving it. Check prices for groceries on a comparison website or just go on the supermarkets websites and see what they have on special offer that week, if you take a list and stick to it, you could get a lot more for your money.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

If I see a really good offer for something I need anyway then I'll do my weekly shop there, we have asda, tesco, morrisons, aldi, lidl and netto all fairly close. I like tesco best though, I always have a set list and don't buy stuff thats not on it unless its something I would soon need thats on a good offer. I always look for the best value version of eachj product, I really like their new 'discounted brand' range. Morrisons is halfway between home and work (about 5 mins away) so I'll ocassionally go there but I'm not massively impressed by their fruit and veg.
I ALWAYS go to Tesco for toilet rolls/kitchen rolls as I think the discount brand one is fab!!!0 -
I always shop around and like others here, check mysupermarket regularly. If there's a good promotion on non-perishables I buy several and store them in an upstairs cupboard.
I have the choice of Tesco, Waitrose and Sainsbury - sadly no Morrison or Asda nearby. I tend to buy non-perishables in Tesco when on special offer. I don't trust their meat because of what I've read on their forum from other users. I prefer Waitrose for meat and fish and they often drastically reduce these at around five pm. I also love my Waitrose branch because the staff are soooo polite and helpful and compared with sTrESsCO it is so relaxing to shop in. I often find them cheaper than Sainsbury too.
In my better-off days I bought lots from M&S but aside from cost it's not the same since Stuart Rose got his hands on it so I hardly ever visit.
Even taking petrol costs into account I think I save heaps by shopping aroundMy message to that greedy wunch of bankers:

Thursday night is shopping night for me. I drop my son of at beavers and then drive to Morrisons, Lidl and Aldi. They are all pretty close and I can get round the 3 of them and get back to pick up my son in less than 1 hour.
I like Morrisons for meat and fish, grab any BOGOFS or deals, also thier Jolonga apples (cheap and juicy). Then Aldi, regulars on my shopping list are: - tuna fish, olive olive, fresh pizza, breadsticks, noddles and whatever fruit and veg I can get. Next it Lidls:- Fruit juice, pasta, tomato puree, more fruit and veg (dependant on offers), peanuts, and whatever relavant offers they have.
Pick my son up, stop at Asda stay - fresh bread, any offers, and any reductions.
Drop him at home then off to Tescos, wife works their so anything, I havent been able to secure on special offer is bought from here.
Then on the way home from work I will stop at Farmfoods, they have great toilet roll, kitchen roll and frozen curry sauce.
propbably spend about 3 - 3 1/2 hours in supermarkets, but in terms of petrol not a lot as they are all fairly local to me.0 -
My Mum & I get together on a Saturday morning and go round Aldi, Iceland, Lidl & Morrisons. We drive but they are all with a 5 mile route. Means that we get to spend time together and we can split any BOGOF offers and discounts we find.0

We've got all the big supermarkets local including Waitrose and M&S and shop at all of them.
Depends on what we fancy and what's on offer but we're lucky we can pick and choose.0 -
Never thourght to look on my supermarket site but did look on Morrisions site at deals hubby failed to pick up and signed up for newsletter.
My gripe with M:orrisions is
*The fruit and veg poor quality goes off before date
*The prepackaged meats ok, not brought from butchers counter as always figured it be more prScey but have brought from fish counter which is good.
*What I find a let down is the poultry range its tiny and not that cheap plus I prefer to buy free range or freedom and find Sainsburys has huge choice and multibuys on mince and chicken.
I buy 2 for £5 mince normally but the quality stuff as cheap mince nasty and fatty.
Free range chicken pay between £4-6
chicken fillets a rare purchase as costs £6-7 for free range
freedom chicken thighs drumsticks £1.99 in Sainsburys fab for casseroles.
Where Morrisions is strong on grocery items as seems to have more bogoffs and some fab value branded frozen.
But I find their range limited couldent get everything I wanted at Morrisions have tried, dont find it particuarly exiting and few reductions when I go in.
I think i can save by doing weekly fruit and veg shop at Lidls as Sainsburys adds up.
Sainsburys nearly always has offers on cheese and ham which I find can be pricey.
M&S believe it or not has fab deals and own brand quite cheap 2litre bottle of pop under £1, other week got 3 for 10offer on meat and poultry so 2freedom chickens and one twin pack of quality mince, spent £20 the other month and got loads as lots of 2 for £2 deals, love the m&s own brand stuff.
Im trying to cut £100 of my grocey bill £200 a month for family of 2adults, 1 hungry toddler and baby, including houdsehold/toilitries.
Was hoping if i shopped smarter and became a shop tart hubby wouldent notice we will still eat well and have a few treats like local farm shop and farmers market, the odd takeaway, bottle of wine ect.
Obviously the shopping round them all wont be exactly pain free but if i means i can make huge savings and get more for our money.
Last year we tried just shopping at independants on local high st but dident find it cheaper.
Hubby wants to try online but im weary as like to pick best dates, delivery charge, miss out on potential reductions possibly offers as they easy to find on the ends and think surfing the website to order would take me longer than just going into store.
Im sure i can make more savings.Im never that lucky with reductions co-op quite generous with reductions , Sainsbury knock hardly anything off.
Are there any posts on this site that tell you
rough times and amount they reduce by each supermarket so I know when its best to go in.
dates/days of when offers change over?
Im thinking sainsburys, lidls and co-op weekly and morrisions possibly tesco fornightly?pad by xmas2010 £14,636.65/£20,000::beer:

I have access to all the major supermarkets, most within walking distance, as well as several good independent ethnic supermarkets. I keep an eye open for all the special offers (mysupermarket.co.uk is a VERY useful tool) and for voucher offers - £10 off £60 at Waitrose, that sort of thing.
Certain items are consistently good value for money at one particular supermarket, so if I happen to be shopping at that supermarket because they have a lot of offers on things I need, I will tend to stock up on those items. For example, Tesco 825g packs of Finest free range chicken drumsticks and thighs are about £2.75 which is brilliant value compared with anywhere else. Also, if I have good reason to spend a lot, eg a voucher offer with a certain spend, I will have certain items I will stock up on to make the voucher usable.
There are certain staples which are almost always cheaper and better quality at Lidl/Aldi - the one which comes to mind is Parmesan, and Lidl tinned tomatoes are excellent quality for the price (though am currently still working through a massive stockpile I acquired at Netto during a special offer earlier in the year).
I agree about the meat at Morrisons, it's very good quality, not quite as good as Waitrose IMHO, but much more reasonably priced.
As a preference, if I'm just doing a small shop, I tend to shop at Morrisons (as it's the easiest trip home by public transport).Operation Get in Shape

I'd love to shop around but my nearest supermarket is Sainsburys, I try to buy at the butchers, but it's hard when you work longer hours than they are open! There is a new farm shop near me, but it's in a rival garden centre (OH's family run one too) and i feel like a traitor going in there!!Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500
