Query, Tax Credits/Housing Benefits

I currently work part time (20 hours), I live with my partner and step daughter.
During the christmas period, work is getting busy and my manager wants to know if I can do any over time.
I can't call the council or inland revenue because i always get put on hold and I'd rather not have a huge phone bill come January.
What extra work can I actually do without getting into trouble with my benefits?
