Alton Towers is within reach and with Martin's 2 for 1 and https://www.gosummer.com it would work out a bit cheaper.
Chester Zoo is also within reach, about 20 miles.
Delamere Forest is close by which is good for long walks or picnics.
Whitegate Way which starts in Winsford is also a nice walk, it all depends on what you want to do, if you give me better idea I'll do some research as we live 7 miles north of Crewe
    I haven't got one!

    Mortgage-free Glee!
    Thanks Cheeky Mole.

Already planning Alton Towers via Clubcard and 2 for 1. We like walks/gardens/museums/cultural stuff /canals- and of course a nice country pub or two!

    Ok then...

...there's Tatton Park which is a lovely country park with deer etc. I think you need to pay for parking and entry to the house.
Marbury Park is nr. Northwich, another lovely park with walks along the canal. Again parking is payable.
Delamere Forest, there are a few different entry points for that one.
As for pubs, The Rising Sun on the Nantwich road heading away from the hospital has excellent food and all freshly cooked.
There are some lovely walks around Whitegate and The Plough Inn is a good pub for tea there.
Sandbach is a very old kinda' place and has a market on, mmm, not sure which day but could easily find out for you.
There's a really nice farm/garden centre on the other side of crewe (I will find out the name for you) - basically it's a small garden centre selling organic veggies etc, sell plants and garden stuff with a big adventure playground (free) and a small petting farm and indoor hay barn where you can feed the animals for the cost of a bag of food - my DD loves it there.
Beeston Castle and Cholmondley are other cultural kind of places and there's a candle factory at Beeston where the kids can make their own candles.

I'll leave you to peruse that for now and I'll come up with some other stuff if you need it
    I haven't got one!
  • Me and my two children (10 and 6) stayed in Crewe over half term for a few days.
Recommend Trentam Gardens, just outside Stoke, about 15 mins from Crewe. has lake with boats to hire, minature railway, lots of lovely walks, and a forest full of wild monkeys! They run loose in the enclosed forest and are fascinating to see up close-just dont take in any food or they'll have it off you fairly sharpish!
    Hope that helps.
`Save a little money each month, and at the end of the year, you'll be suprised at how little you have.

This is Trentham Gardens website. Its fab - especially the Monkey Sanctuary. There is also a butterfly farm opening sometime this year.

This is the best place ever in our opinion. Take a spare set of clothes for when you've finished :Dhttp://www.crockytrail.co.uk/ I'd take a picnic here too or if you're self catering buy some sandwiches before you go as there's not much to buy in the way of food. Although it could easily be a half day trip - it depends how active your children are!

Its fab & cheap here too http://www.reaseheath.ac.uk/thecollege/maizemaze.htm
We took a picnic here last year and had it in the maze!! Actually, there is a sainsbury's 5 minutes from here with a cafe too. The children get a worksheet with things to find around the maze so its good cheap fun.

You've also got Beeston castle and peckforton castle - we haven't ctually been to either of these but they look good from a distance.

If you want some fun Waterworld is supposed to be fab. We haven't been for years though. http://www.waterworld.co.uk/ This is on a retail park which also has a megabowl and a cinema so may be a good location if you get a rainy day. About 15-20 mins from Crewe

If you do want another rainy day activity consider http://www.thewedgwoodvisitorcentre.com/
Again, about 15-20 mins from crewe. The chldren can have a go at making pots on a pottery wheel. I've never been here either but it looks good! :D

Looks like me & Cheekymole both live around here so as Cheekymole said just ask! You can always pm me too if I dont come back to this thread :D

OMG - I really do need to go to bed but I've thought of some more places and I might forget about them in the morning  I'll just post the links and let you have a wander!

http://www.stapeleywg.com/ (look at 'The Palms' link for the kids)

http://www.dagfields.co.uk/ (a bargain 50p admission animal village here)

http://www.hackgreen.co.uk/ (I want to go here but my girls dont  oh, so if you go can I come too? :D )

Do you need to go to a shopping centre? :ohttp://www.potteries-shopping-centre.co.uk/ is a good centre 10-15mins away.

Or for bargains about 1 hour away have a look for Cheshire Oaks outlet village. Near here is http://www.blueplanetaquarium.com/ good - but its not cheap!

    :D

    Hi

There's a nice pub called the Hand & Trumpet at Wrinehill which is only a few miles away from where you're staying. The food isn't cheap - but it is delicious!

The farm that CheekyMole mentioned is called Wheelock Hall Farm, and it's on the main Crewe - Sandbach road, by the Wheelock roundabout. Just down the road from the farm is Lakemore Country Park which has a nature trail, various animals & birds, and other activities like crazy golf.

There are various historic places in the South Cheshire area to visit:
    Beeston Castle (http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/server/show/conProperty.139)
    Peckforton Castle (http://www.touruk.co.uk/houses/house-cheshire-peckforton-castle.htm)
    Little Moreton Hall (http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-vh/w-visits/w-findaplace/w-littlemoretonhall.htm)

Chester is a nice place to visit with lots to do. River walks, boat trips, city walls, roman amphitheatre, Grosvenor Museum etc.

    Hope this helps

Me again! Just remembered something else...

The Jodrell Bank observatory is a few miles north of Crewe, between Holmes Chapel & Macclesfield (http://www.jb.man.ac.uk/viscen/)

There is loads to do in Liverpool, 5 Museums, Beatles story on the Albert Dock, Liverpool football Club Museum and tour, and just outside Chester there is a town called Waverton that has whats called the crocky trail, it has various rope swings, slides and bridges crossing a small brook, it's a good laugh and worth a look, bit pricey though the last time i went it was about £5 a person.
