Contents insurance - can i move with previous claims?

Hi
I've had Barclay's contents insurance for the last 5 years or so. I'm moving house next week so thought it would be a good time to shop around (plus i will now be needing buildings cover).
I have 2 claims, both thefts, from Nov 2006 and April 2007 on my record. Is it worth me trying some other providers, or will i be turned down because of these?
Also, are there any issues if i stick with Barclays for contents but use someone else for buildings (Barclays quote for building seems very high!)
Thanks for any advice.....

Most insurers give a substantial discount if you take both building and contents with them so it is rarely cheaper to split the two across two insurers. You many also want to check with your mortgage lenders T&Cs as many charge you a fee each time you want to switch your buildings insurer (including year 1) if you aren't insurering through them or their prefered partner.
There is never any harm in getting quotes to check if your getting the best deal and 2 claims are unlikely to block you from getting quotes though naturally it will load the premium.
When comparing quotes remember to check you are comparing apples and apples, some insurers include accidental damage to sanatry wear, entertainment equipement and glass even if you dont pay for complete accidental damage where as other insurers dont.... sometimes lower premiums are not a better deal but simply lower cover. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

The two theft claims may stop some companies from quoting or if they do, they may apply additional terms or conditions. Even if you are moving, you may have a security endorsement requiring certain locks to doors and windows be fitted to your new property within a set period.
Although the theft may affect Contents, it also affects Buildings as obviously damage may be caused the thieves breaking in. So the thefts are relevant to both risk types.
Whilst it is true that you get a discount for having the Buildings and Contents together, this does not mean that you will not find you can arrange cover cheaper, having the two separate.
You may find it worthwhile contacting a local broker. I would avoid Swintons as they don't have the best reputation. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
The Nov 2006 claim will be ignored by some Insurers as some only ask for claims within three years0

I've actually managed to get some more (cheaper!) quotes now and there weren't any problems with the previous claims. When i went through the same process last year i had problems so assumed it would be the same this year (being still within 3 years). Anyway, looks like i'll go for M+S, buildings and contents for less than Barclays quoted for just buildings! Thanks for the responses though! :beer:0
