First time I got married we use the local Hungarian hall-was just like a church hall and we had free rein to decorate and was dirt cheap. We had our own buffet . Church halls for some reason were dearer. Ask around-someone will know of something similar. For some reason RedCross halls seem to be a good hall option too. I know I've attended an event at a Red Cross hall in Birmingham-the place was huge, very nice and they did the catering in house. PM me if you want more info and I'll find out where it was exactly.

Second time we hired the social club in the local town hall. Really central and very reasonable. We used their caterers and they did a fantastic job of decorating and with the food.

Another option might be a local college -especially one with catering courses. Some do weddings at a very reasonable cost to give their students experience.

  • Local Golf Clubs/Rugby Clubs? My DF is a Rugby player but his club is only small and therefore not suitable for our venue. Due to current climate they would have glady wanted our bar takings! We are having ours at a Racecourse - again large function suite. Hire of complete stand (upper and lower rooms) is costing us £600, we have to use their caterers - been quoted £16per head for 3 course meal (£8 for children) and £7 for buffet. Excellent food as we tested it as customers before booking it!
