Gas Meter Safety Check ?
Morning / Afternoon chaps.
I'll try keep this short!
Our boiler broke last week... they are fiting a new one as I type
However - they discovered a Gas Leak on the Metre box.
This has now bene fixed.... however....We knew something was wrong when we was getting £50 a month bills during the summer for just hot water... (no other gas items!).
We've read at various places - that gas metres should have been checked / examined at least once every 2 years??
Our's was last checked in 2005! British gas have bene round last week... and in MAY 2009 and still failed to notice this...
It was only our plumbers now - who noticed it as a strong leak!
With the leak - this explains the high bills. Because british gas have failed to do the checks every 2 years.... surely we can get money back from them....
We did explain something was wrong when we got our bill yet nothing was done.
Any advice / tips / numbers / emails what I can use?
Thanks in advance.

You say the meter hasn't been inspected since 2005 yet you say British Gas was last round in May 2009.

If there has been any significant escape of gas that would have affected your bills, you would have smelt the leak."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
It hasn't been inspected since 2005.
It has been READ since then.
They came round in May to fit parts to the Boiler.
The leak is coming from a part on the metre... which is based outside the house at the front... We only use the backdoor (car parked round back).0 -
how did the plumber find the leak was it through testing the pressure when relighting the boiler ? give british gas a ring on 0800 0480 202 and discuss with them advising them that you have had a gas leak and giving the details of date/time etc emergency service attendedI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

There's no difference. An official meter read is also a safety check. It hasn't been inspected since 2005.

If you have a leak on your installation, thats your problem. Further, meter readers do not test for leaks. Their inspections are simply visual. A gas leak would have a miniscule effect on the overall gas bill.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
