Hi a few years back I put in a small under stairs toilet, which turned out really nice. I did not know then what I know now and made a recess in the wall bwteen the stairs and the toilet, in which I fitted a sink and tiled the area behind the sink and upwards from the sink with small mosaic type tiles, probably about 1cm square on mats of 1 foot square approx.
Anyway all was fine until we had a little boy and he grew to a size where he could use the sink. He often leaves a little puddle around the sink and when he does it seems to seap through the tiles/grout and make a damp area under the stairs. It is not really bad but bad enough that I would like to stop it if possible before it does any real damage, which I am sure it will do over time.
When I fitted these tiles I knew nothing about tanking etc, or that I would have a little boy who splashed about
so I just fitted the tiles normally.
Now I have seen mention of sealing tiles and I am not sure it is for this sort of thing, but could I seal these tiles and grout to make the area more waterproof?
And if so, what with?
I don't want to re-tile if possible as it all looks so nice now and I would hate to have to rip bits out etc.
Any help would really be appreciated.

But it says nothing about sealing, I wanted to stop the water that he splashes from the tap, which ends up behind the sink, and laying on the tiles from getting past the tiles and grout into the cupboard behind, they are not really getting stained or anything like that.0 -
Have you used a mastic/silicone waterproof sealent where the tiles meet the sink? If not that is whats needed , you can buy it in B & Q#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

You need a penetrating grout sealer.
The sealer soaks into any absorbent surface and prevents water getting past it, as any moisture beads on the surface and runs off.
I used one on my shower tiles and bathroom floor tiles.
2 coats applied with a sponge is normally enough and it has no affect at all on the look of the tiles or grout.0 -
I think I used this:

Google and shop around for best price, it's somewhere around £10 for a litre tub, which would probably do a whole bathroom.0
