PPC ticket

Hello,
Please could someone help and maybe clarify my position. I have read a lot of the PPC threads and think that I know what to do... Ignore! Ignore! Ignore!!

I parked on a PPC enforced layby opposite my house yesterday for a max 10 minutes whilst I ran to the loo. On my return I had a ticket for a £100 'parking charge'. The ticket does not give much info other than a payment address. There are no acronyms i.e BPA,SIA etc so I would assume, from what I have read, that the company is very much a cowboy setup. It does not even give any details on how to appeal..

My question is; as I knowingly parked in a PPC enforced area, is my situation different in any way to those of you who recieved questionable tickets in a pay car park supermarket etc?? or is ignoring the ticket and probable threatening letters the way to go?

I would really appreciate any comments.

Thanks in advance.

No, your situation is no different as long as you don't tell the [STRIKE]parasites[/STRIKE] PPC who was driving the car. And you don't have to.

Some people on pepipoo deliberately try to get these tickets, there has even been talk of a national 'bait the PPCs day' where loads of us would try to collect these tickets and then ignore the lot (costs them money). That's no different than your example.

They'll send letters to the registered keeper but they can't allege a contract with the rk, only possibly the driver (and that's defendable).

Just ignore, as per all the other threads. Relax and enjoy Christmas!

Out of interest, who are the PPC ?

  • PPC's enforcing a layby are unusual. is the layby on private land or are they acting for a council? Depending on your answer you may be asked to pm pics of the ticket to one of the more experienced members on here.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • Hi,

The layby has recently been taken over by a local housing association - when it was council owned we never had any problems parking there!
The PPC have not been proactive until now so maybe they are trying to justify their existance to the HA. Following advice on other threads I am not going to give details of the PPc just yet....

    thanks

    'taken over' ? ? ?

If it is still highway what rights does the Private Parking Company have, if any ?
  • Coblcris,

I believe that the layby is owned by the housing assoc. It is attached to a residents only parking area ( which i never use) BUT is seperated by double white hatching. No one ever parks there except tradesmen if the residents area is full.

In the event that your belief is well founded the question still stands.
  • H Assoc owned land
    Not highway (Devon County Council)
    Not local Council

My question is: if I knowingly parked on private land without permission do i still ignore PPC demands?

Yes, because the charge is not enforceable in law.
