Help needed with hoover washing machine

Hi needing advice as my hoover washing machine glass door exploded yesterday. Bought the washing machine in feb2008 and never had any bother. The weird thing is the machine wasnt even switched on. There was a bang and the glass is all inside the machine. Bought the machine from currys but they said i needed to phone hoover. They want £109 for engineer to come out and replace the door but my concern is with the glass all inside the drum will there be bits off glass through the machine. I wanted to know if anyone had ever heard off the glass exploding on a machine and do i have to keep this machine as im worried about the glass being inside it..

Have you done a Google search to see if other people have had the same problem?

Due to the length of time that you have had the machine, you will need to prove to the retailer that the item is inherently faulty before they offer a remedy.

Many years ago on a very old washing machine the same thing happened to me, it went off with a very loud pop, small bits of glass all over the place.
No idea what caused it tho the glass was a bit scratched and I had not long before given it a clean, the cloth did have bleach on it, I wonder if that had anything to do with it.
Washing machine was taken to the local dump.
