Well Things have turned in my favour, I dont start my new Job until Thursday Now this week, have an induction to go too, so I was able to sign on and just make the last signing on day today wheew. So I have my final payment this friday. I will sign off Thursday and post the book to them in the post.

I asked at the jobcentre how to sign off and she gave me a number to call, but I think I will send in the booklet because it has a signature to sign.Maybe I will be able to claim this 100 pound grant now !!

Thanks again for all your help and advice.

Why didn't you just hand the book in and say you're signing off on the Thursday (write this down in the book too). You can't close a claim through a phone (I tried this!) so I don't know what the JC officer was going on about. If you insist on sending the book through the post then try to at least send it recorded delivery, the JC might say they haven't received anything and you'd be stuck in the mud, go to speak.

Yeah Ive heard you cant close a claim on the phone and thought it strange she gave me a number to ring. I will hand my booklet in on thursday after I sign my contract. I will pop the booklet in the post or by hand. I am a great believer in having things in black and white on paper before i do anything. I was signing on a few years back and i posted the booklet back and they recieved it no problems so i cant see any problems this time. What ever the situation I have the Job so I am happy and with a company I used to work for back in 2006.

Yeah you should get job grant, also ask for ADF Payment (Adviser Discretionary Fund) this is where (like job grant) they will pay for clothes etc you buy for you new job, Job Grant is more for assistance with an Interview than new job, it seems alot of JCP don't know about ADF so they may say it doesn't exist but tell them that someone who works for JCP told you about it (i work for JCP)

Oh Thank you for the information:T

In the 9 months I have been signing on,all the staff at my jobcentre have been so nice and helpfull and I cant find any fault in JSP. Im just grateful the help was there when I needed it! My Signing on lady wished me good luck in the new job and wished me a happy christmas too.

Just started a new job this week, whee. First day was Monday. Once I'd signed the contract I sent my booklet off to the JCP where I was signing on. Think it will be a good idea to phone them in a day or two (before my signing day which would be Friday) to make sure they got it. Are they likely to know if it arrived & was processed?

You 'can' sign off over the phone but only if your JC has 'gone live' with the new In & Out of work procedure.
Basically, it is a lot quicker this way - you will get your last payment quicker along with any job grant & P45.
Doing it this way also includes an automatic email being sent to your LA who will sort out any 4 week run-on.. AND the JC staff on the phone will also fill in a tax credit form for you (if applicable) or report your change of circumstances!!

All in all.. in my office.. it has been rec'd positively by all who've used it!

Coming to a JC near you soon..!!
Oops!! Should I have posted this??? Some users don't think I shouldn't be offering advice due to my occupation!!!

Yes they will know. For anyone reading this that is about to sign off i would advise going into the jobcente to sign off, they will take your booklet there and then, take the relevant parts from it and throw the rest away for you, they will then most likely tell you to use one of the warm phones (the phones that are on the walls where you can phone the different DWP departments) where you will be able to phone the signing off line (ask for the dial out number) it take literaly 2 minutes on the phone to sign off, then you will get your P45 about a week later.

It's a bit daft in my case. I got the job offer on Friday afternoon, to start Monday AM. Not much chance to dash off to the JCP I hope a phone call chase up before Friday coming (signon day) will tie the ends up.
