Unable to text Ireland from mobile

Wonder if anyone could please give me some help & advice. My husband has a new Nokia mobile (Tesco Network) and has been sending and receiving texts from family in Ireland with no problems & sent one only this morning then he tried to reply to text from brother but it went directly into 'out' box and hasn't gone anywhere since. We both have Nokia phones and both use Tesco network. We tried sending each other messages and had no problem. I've tried sending one to Ireland using my phone and this appeared 'Failed - no network support for messages. Contact your service provider'. Phoned Tesco's for help and the operator suggested it might be due to flooding in Ireland! find that hard to believe:mad:. They live in Dublin and aren't affected. Can anyone offer any help?. Thanks.

Did you try ringing? If a phone call fails then there is most likely a fault somewhere.

  • So you can send and receive text messages within the UK, but when you try to send to ROI, it fails? Sounds like some sort of barring is in place, although I've only ever heard of this happening with calls.

Tried texting 2 different numbers. Rang them from landline tonight. Just very strange everything was fine this morning and then it started playing up. Think I need to contact Tesco again.

If you don't try ringing them from the same handset you're texting from its not going to tell you much as a test of connection between the two :rotfl:

We've tried texting 3 seperate people in Ireland and we're both having the same problem with our Nokia phones (both Tesco network). Have been told it's a network problem & not a phoe problem. I'm about to contact Tesco Mobile once again.

could it be that ireland is out of uk and therefor would be a premium rate text
and therefore it may be banned on your plan

Worth suggesting but not the problem. We're both on pay as you go and up until Tuesday afternoon it was working fine. Husband not a keen phone person but happy enough to send texts and we've been using it daily.I've emailed Tesco Mobile explaining problem and waiting for a response. We tried phoning from mobile to Ireland and it works fine.

Tesco have resolved our problem. We both bought new phones from Tesco's and they included £10.00 & £20.00 free credit. It seems with the free credit certain restrictions are in force ie not being able to call or text Int. numbers. Such a simple solution and it never occured to us. We've now topped up credit and we're back in business once again. Feel a bit daft for not working out the problem. Thanks for all the suggestions.
