How to reserve an expiring domain?

Theres a domain i would like to buy that expires on the 9th July.

Is it possible he could have it on automatic renew?

How can i try and get the domain as soon as it expires so its not snapped up?

Yes and no and the owner still has time to renew a few months infact before it finally leaves the net.

There are sites that specialise in buying domains when they expire, I am sure !!!!!!.com and yahoo do it.

I think you'll find that the person that already owns it will have first refusal,

if they don't renew it then you would have to wait until it comes on the market, the other alternative is to see if you can buy it off them as i know you can sell domains that you have registered yourself
