Kitchen Sink Problem

Hi guys, thought i'd ask the experts instead of struggling through this problem on my own.
Its regarding my sink...
i have a porcelain sink (one of the old solid victorian ones) which is set within a wooden surface worktop. Unfortunately through regular use and splashing of water, the wood surrounding the sink has begun to rot and discolour, particularly at the sealant / joins.
Now i think the wood needs replacing and i was wondering whats the best way to go about it.
Now... should i
A) buy a new section of worktop and refit it (but i think the colour match will be poor)
buy a new sink which has a lip / splashback
C) the middle ground of finding some sort of metal rim that goes around the sink which would stop water collecting there which i cant seem to find
D) a better option from a MSE member
Thanks for ure help in advance... i took a picture and i hope it shows below

It`s hard to tell by the photo but that looks like a pretty big sink ,i think you would really struggle to find a sink that would fit that size especially if your looking for a more standard stainless steel one.
You could look for some metal trim, but again it could be a very hard job to find just what your looking for.
I would start by measuring your existing gap and then start looking around for a sink that might fit.0 -
hi tomfun,
thanks for the reply... .as for the size, i think the camera zoomed in there, but it is quite wide.
you can see there the black margin around the sink where the grout has discoloured and the greyish rot on the wood. Its also black there the tiles are which is really rotten. I was thinking about cutting the wood out and trying to get some trim. The worktop is very long so replacing the whole thing is out of the Q.
As for the sink, its actually fine, nothing wrong with it itself, just the wood margin.
Any ideas?0 -
Sand & coat the wood (it looks solid).
Remove all the grout, mastic & tiles & redo it in new material. Save the tiles if you can, if you cant just put an wanted ad on freecycle..Not Again0
