Electricity consumption Gadgets?

Can anyone reccomend an electricity monitoring gadget to use round the home. I am not interested in the single appliance types, more the whole home systems. This being MSE it has to be cheap too :)
If I can use it to minitor on the PC to that would be even better.
In fact are there any that pay the electric bill as well ;):rotfl:

    Thanks
I switched suppliers a couple of months ago but the OWL system was one I had spied. Just trying to decide if it is a gadget I need or just a gimmick :p

I got one of the British Gas ones for free, you needn't be a customer. Arrived a few days ago.

    See here: http://www.3rdsectoronline.com/freebies/free-standby-saver-and-real-time-electricity-monitor-from-british-gas/

It took about four weeks to arrive.

If your a contortionist I am pretty sure my digital reading meter is even easier. It is just I don't bend in all the right places to see it in the dark and write down the details whilst balancing like a performing seal.

But you do need to be on Benefits or over 70 to get one free, according to the first paragraph of your link. :(

The Eon or "Current Cost" monitors can be bought on eBay for less than £25 and it work quite well (apart from its clock, which keeps appalling time).

Ours sits in a corner of the kitchen and we do keep an eye on the consumption figures it reports. It's effective: if we see it reading above normal we track down what's been left on accidentally or unnecessarily.

I just wish they did one for gas, too.

To be honest I hadn't even noticed that when I applied for one, I just saw the 'free' bit.

To be fair, the coupon you send off doesnt state that, or ask for evidence.
