I'm looking to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 but I'm sure what version to go for with regards to a 32 or 64bit?
What are the main differences and would the 'normal' user notice these?
Thanks!

64bit will allow your PC to see and use 4GB of memory or more. It allows your PC to perform better in certain aspects and it will be the way all software goes eventually.
The drawbacks are not all processors can run it and some older peripherals won't work as there are no drivers for them. My canon LBP2900i laser printer won't work with my Win7 64bit. Everything else has

Yeah the one main thing you have to look out is the software compatibility in 64-bit version. These depends on the kind of software you are using.0

Thanks Oneday - What Win7 version did you get?
Do they all come with the auto back up on it? thanks0 -
I have Win7 64bit Ultimate. I am not sure about the autobackup on which versions, never checked tbh. Pretty sure it's a standard feature.
I only went Ultimate as it was just the same price as professional when I got mine through www.software4students.co.uk, now professional is cheaper, ah well.
If you go for a normal retail pack of any Win7 you will get 32 and 64bit editions so can switch between them if you get an issue with incompatibility. The academic version I got only comes with on or the other.New PV club member. 3.99kW system. Solar Edge with 14 x 285W JA Solar panels. 55° West from south and 35° pitch.0 -

Yes I've got a Intel Core 2 Due E4400 @ 2.00GHZ
Not sure if that would be powerful enough?
How long did it take for the software to come from the 'student' website?0 -

This is your processor here, and if you look under advanced technologies, it will run x64. So that'll be perfect for Windows 7 x64.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
You only get the real advantage of 64bit if you are running 64bit applications.
If not, stick to 32bit with 3Gb RAM limit.

If all of your apps and hardware will work with 64 Bit why would anyone be beter off sticking to 32 Bit. This si the last windows editon that will have a 32 bit version so people may as well move over now.
For the record I switched from 32 Bit Vista to 64 Bit Windows 7 and have had o issues whatsoever. It has however let me use all 4Gb of my memory. It's my problem, it's my problem

Exactly. I would have done the same, only my processor didn't allow it.
