If I sell a new PS3 without the receipt, will the buyer have a Sony guarantee?

Hi,

I'm selling a PS3 which I previously purchased from a shop. It is still sealed, but don't want to send my receipt to the person who's buying it.

Where does the buyer stand if they want to claim on the warranty at any point in future without the receipt?

thanks

  • They can't.
Had mine replaced five times now, Sony always want the receipt. Not usually on claiming, but after they've fixed it, they won't return it without seeing the receipt. Caused a few nightmare moments when I lost mine!

Warranties are non transferable. Even though it sealed it will still be classed as second hand it which its Buyer beware. You could keep the receipt safe and tell them to contact you if they have any problems.

Why don't you want to give the receipt to the person?
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Curiosity is all... seems quite odd.

    Luckily i have nine lives:p

Oh, to break it? I didn't. Mine worked for about a year, then shattered the disk inside it, so was unplayable. They fixed and returned it, minus disk, but it kept freezing. They replaced it three times after that with 'software' faults, and then once when the HDMI slot broke. Then they gave me a brand new one, which has been fine since :)

I meant how did you manage to get it fixed by them without the receipt?

Nice work getting a new one though!

As for hudsonj - I got it using a discount I have at a shop so I could sell it on for hopefully a profit.
