I was thinking that the other day about tru it would b alot better if when u added somethin 2 ur basket it was yours and maybe give 5-10 mins 2 allow u 2 checkout b4 releasing it for sale again
Absolutely, TRU are not alone in this however.
Tesco has the same issue.
It appears that very few companies have designed their systems to cope effectively with scenarios where more people want the stock than they have available.
It has become big news with us because of the numbers of people buying and the concentrated conversations here, but it probably happens on a daily basis where there is 1 solitary item in stock, but 2 people simultaneously want it ... but we never understood the problem until Go Go Hamsters revealed it.
I think I read here of someone that ended up with an empty basket, but a £4.95 delivery charge on it ... crazy!!0 -
In common with Martin, I had also written to TRU regarding the PayPal Shambles
I had a call from the UK TRU Head of E-Commerce yesterday and discussed anumber of points and he has responded by email as follows :
I also took the opportunity to point out that this problem had only arisen because of the add to basket process that allows more items than are 'in stock' to be added to customers baskets, leading to people attempting to pay for items and ending up with funds reserved for a period of time.
He has assured me that they are looking at the whole process with a view to re-coding the purchase process to see whether the item can be reserved for sufficient period to complete payment and stopping people adding to basket when all available stock is already in someones baskets already. They already have people looking at systems to see what effort would be needed to go down that route.
That would eliminate the race to payment we have today to avoid items being deleted from the customer basket and avoid people 'paying' for items that are not available.
Understandably, it would be the wrong time of year just now to make such changes, but from the conversation, I believe that TRU are anxious to avoid a repeat of this incident in future and if it means that it needs re-engineering of the way we purchase, then I believe that they will do it.

One thing not discussed here is that the reservation period is apparently something negotiated between the merchant and PayPal and will differ according store to store.
I am told that there was extreme misinformation being provided and that the reservation period was actually only 5 days and not the 29 originally stated. Still not good enough if there was nothing to buy, but considerably better than having funds locked until after Christmas.0 -
Hi all, been away for a few days on a course, have come back to discover that hamstergeddon happened and a lovely new thread has started.
I have my hammies, house and a couple of addons, just an update from the spanish order - I ordered on Sunday lunchtime, received a confirmation email and still states order in preparation, I emailed them and have just got a lovely email back letting me know that my order was about to be sent to their transport agency and apologies for any inconvenience in the delay(I thought that this was quite quick), but thanking me for my trust in their services - bless them, maybe some of our UK companies could learn something from their customer services - hopefully this means that my hamster collection is complete - until the new stock arrives next year!!!!!!!!!!0 -
Hi, Was wondering has anyone bought the handmade accessories (carrier & bed) as I only have 'chunk' for daughter for xmas and really need to get something else to go with it, have given up on trying to get the bigger items (house, ball, car etc) as I can't be on here waiting on stock to arrive all day long as I have 2 other kids under 3yrs, so have seen a few on ebay which are handmade and they look okay but just wondered if anyone has actually bought any and can recommened them or a seller to me.
