Considering a Nursery? Please read this

Hi folks,

I'm sure there are many parents out there who are considering a nursery place for their little ones in the near future.

I would like to bring your attention to a loophole in Ofsted registrations for private nurseries.

Below is a link to a tragic story that happened at a nursery local to me. It's quite upsetting but relevant, I haven't posted it to cause upset but to make prospective parents aware.

http://www.justiceforrhiya.co.uk

The website is about a beautiful little girl who died following an accident whilst in the care of a nursery, very tragic. The nursery as yet have not been held accountable for her death, again outrageous. However the real horror of the situation is that the nursery have re-regiestered with Ofsted and in doing so have wiped out any record of the fatal accident occuring.

Prospective parents will only be able to see the Ofsted report since their re-registration, which states there are no complaints against this provider, everything else has been completley wiped out.

So please, if you're looking for a nursery and you think there's something fishy about the dates, you think the nursery has been there longer than it has been registered with Ofsted, trust your instinct and dig deeper. Things are not always as they seem.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks, just had a quick scan, my heart goes out to those parents. It's awful that Ofsted who are meant to inspect and make childcare providers accountable have let this happen.
There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.
  • Having just read the whole link, I think Eton Manor should be absolutely ashamed of themselves..
The de-registering in order to wipe the slate clean SHOULD NOT be allowed, and as a parent, I would certainly want to know that such a tragedy had accurred.

That little girl was not missed for 25 minutes, while playing in a house that was not recommended for children under 3. They should either not allow under 3's to play in it, or at least supervise them at all times. It would appear, in my opinion, that the staff were busy texting or chatting on their phones, while this beautiful little girl lost her life.

    Absolutely disgraceful.

Who should be held accountable then?
  • This comes of no surprise to me. I have had dealings with ofsted for the last couple of years. Not only can the provider re register, but the complaints drop off very quickly, thus leaving parents without the tools to make an informed choice about the childcare provider. The whole system is a farce.

What a heartbreaking story. My heart goes out to the parents.

I can't understand either why the nursery should be allowed to reregister? What's the point in holding records if they can just be wiped?

If you read my post properly Caroline you wil realise it is not about who is accountable, but it is to raise awareness of the loophole which allows nurseries to simply re-register and wipe out anything negative.

I do agree that the loophole is outrageous but the website is only giving one side of this tragedy.

I disagree with blaming institutions for things - a person dies in an avoidable situation in hospital and people blame the whole hospital and all the staff not the individuals who were responsible.

In this poor childs case it was not a nursery responsible but certain individuals working in the nursery - according to the website.

Based on the website the individuals concerned not 'the nursery' but I haven't read any official reports so can't make an informed objective opinion. I doubt every single person working there would have been responsible for that child, other nursery nurses were probably working in other areas.

I would agree with you, however it seems that a long time has passed, no individuals have been named as being at fault (from what we can gather from article, though some info is omitted) so therefore IMO the nursery needs to take responsibility. If there was one (or two, or three...) individuals that were at fault then they should be prosecuted, but even then the nursery should have to keep this on their record, as it allows parents to make an informed choice.
