I recently changed my telephone provider from BT to Sky. I used to frequently call S Ireland from my BT landline. Sky does not allow me to call 08 or 09 numbers for free, is anyone aware of a cheap rate link I can use? It is UK Sky landline to a mobile in S. Ireland. Thank you

Is it an Irish or a UK mobile you're calling?
I assume you're on Sky Talk Freetime. If you upgrade to Sky Talk Unlimited (£5/month), that would give you inclusive calls of up to 60 minutes each to UK 01/02/03/0870 numbers and to landlines in 20 'popular' international destinations - and Ireland is one of those.
If you don't want to upgrade to that, use www.18185.co.uk (via their 0808 1 703 703 freephone gateway number if you have handed over your line rental to Sky) to make calls to Irish landlines for 4p connection + 2p/minute and to Irish mobiles for 4p connection and 11p/minute.
If you have left your line rental with BT, you will be able to use the 18185 prefix instead and, then, the costs will be 4p connection/1p per minute and 4p connection/9p per minute respectively.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Ooo I'm very interested in this answer too as I frequently call an Irish mobile and I've just had the bill!:eek::eek:0

From a BT Landline to a Eire Mobile www.discountdial.co.uk charge 7p a minute via a 0871 access number, plus your BT connection charge. You start paying as soon as finish dialling the access number and hear the announcement so if the mobile number is unobtainable your still be charged.
From a Sky Landline the charge to call this 0871 access number would also be 7p a minute. ( 9p connection).0
