For cheap, new stuff there are a couple of sites that I've seen mentioned on here before but haven't used myself:
www.kidzrags.co.uk and www.trendytadpoles.co.uk
For second-hand stuff you could look at the Classified Ads on www.babywelcome.com or similar sites.
The alternatives could be your local paper or putting a request out on your local Freecycle group. (https://www.freecycle.org)
Hope that's useful.

That babywelcome.com, why do they need my address? I've never heard of that site before. Is it UK?0 -
Are you a member of freecycle?
I have given many bags of baby clothes away via it, and also recieved some after posting a wanted ad.

I registered with them ages ago and I seem to remember they need your address as they are supposed to post you a pack of goodies when your baby is born, similar to the "Bounty" pack. I never received anything from them though!0 -
Thanks for the Trendy tadpoles link, just had a look and ordered a lovely romper for £2.80 for my baby( who's due date was Monday!)

Are you not interested in ebay? In my experience newborn/0-3/3-6mths clothing can be very very cheap. I managed to get an Obaibi (french concession in big Mothercare stores) bnwt tunic dress, trousers and matching tshirt all worth over £25 for £4.50 inc post.
You should also try Primark
