I keep hearing rumours of an Asda planned for Junction 1, can anyone actually confirm this. Also I now hear asda are buying certain Big W stores on the mainland, I wonder if Belfasts will be bought by Asda too. We allways found Asda to be the best value for money out of all supermarkets, especially great for kids cloths. Hope they do open up here.

The Big W in Belfast is being reduced to 1/3 its current size and will be rebranded as Woolworths. The other 2/3 will be used by a couple of new shops.0

I actually emailled Asda the other day. Guess what? They have no plans to open over here :-/0

The most likely thing is that they may takeover a group of stores at some stage.0

The old safeway stores, because Morrisons are doing so badly over here that they are talking about selling them! :-/0 -
I would have suspected that Morrison's experience would put ASDA off, not encouraged them to buy white elephants.0

I think Asda has a bit more clout than Morrisons, with the Wall Mart connection, and would do better over here. Hopefully we can save money there here soon, if that makes sense.0

I would like to see it!
A good start for this island has been the proposal of Ikea coming to Dublin, I for one can't wait!0 -

This is it's self will save me a fortune going over to Scotland a couple of times a year, lol!0 -
I always had my doubts about the Morrisons group over there, the safeway stores were far smaller than the mainland.
Asda would do much better and i'd hoped they had won that deal, George's clothes are very good value for money and I miss it like hell.
The main competitor here is of course Tesco's, but if they built an Asda from scratch over here in the right shopping centre and monitor its profits i'm sure they would follow suit.0 -

I agree with you. For Asda to buy the existing Morrisons/Safeway would not seem to suit their profile. The best way would be for them to start from scratch, but I don't think they will do that. They depend on quantity and to service a single store from the mainland would destroy their profits.0
