Argos Store Card - Fraud ?

Good morning all.
I would be grateful if the Argos workers here could shed a little light on something for me.
Last monday i purchased a TV and Dvd £300+, and so applied for the store card for 9 months free credit.
I was told that I could not get a desicion on the day so I said not to bother as I have various other cards and didnt actualy need another CC.
The lady asked me to sign the applicaiton and I said No, can you tear it up as I dont want to proceed, she just put it under the counter and I paid with my own CC.
Today an Argos card turns up wiht £2k credit on it, I know i did not sign anything, but my details were taken and rang through before I asked her to tear it up.
Can someone let me know whther a signature is needed for the application to progress ? I believe it is fraud and will be notifying the relevant authorities.

A couple of months ago I received a letter from Argos asking me to telephone them asap. It turned out thar someone was using my details to get a cretic card from them. I realise that this has nothingto do with your application but feel that it could be revelent to that has happened to you.Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.0

You are supposed to have signed the application before the member of staff rings it through, as this is one of the first questions the opperator asks "Has the customer signed the credit agreement and been given all 3 pink copies"
Its a strange one aswell as the fact you haven't signed it should have been picked up at cash office level aswell, and the application stopped there. The fact Argos is so target driven doesn't help.
Basically the Customer Advisor cocked up. Not sure who you would go to and if it would be really worth it? Could try ringing Argos Card and having a royal moan, they might give you some vouchers!
Edit - Once the application has been rung throuh, even if its a 7 to 10 day wait it counts as a completed application. Therefore the CA applied for your credit without signed authorisation and lied about the applicaton been signed.0 -
Does anyone know if Argos employees get commision for getting someone to sign for an Argos Card?0

no we dont - shame given our targets :rolleyes:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0

This may also mean that you have had an unnecessary credit check by Argos which may affect your credit score...correct me guys if I am wrong!"He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,

If you want to prevent someone opening a card account in your name, here's how:

Store cards are so hugely profitable that I'm sure that there's always somebody, somewhere, who's getting bonused on how many people are signed up. Shame it's not the poor sod working the cash register in that case.
Stores will do any trick to get one more card into a sucker's hands. A couple of years ago at Dicken & Jones they completely lied to me and tricked me into filling in an application for a loyalty card. I asked if it was a store credit card and they said no, they had a smooth story all ready. As I was suspicious I signed it but wrote "I AM NOT APPLYING FOR CREDIT" across the signature.
Guess what, I got a store card with fair-sized credit line in the mail shortly after.
This is completely illegal and I pursued it as hard as I could through Trading Standards. Big waste of time though, just try getting anyone actually to enforce the CCA 1974 they are so not bothered.I ♥ MSE0 -

I have just moved to a property ( 4 months ago ) and my hubby accidentally opened what he thought was junk mail for the previous tenant.
They purchased items on their Argos card three months after moving out but they are still having bills sent here.
Obviously the address of delivery is different to that of the billing address - and yet Argos have not queried it !!! I am furious that bills are being run up on a credit card noted at my address !!!
Called Credit cards at Argos and they told me to send the bill back to them. I added a snotty letter with it.0 -
Argos Cards are a complete fraud.
I used to have one and paid for items under the 9months interest free due to the value of purchase. What they don't tell you is that after 9 months if the purchase isnt completely paid off they lump on interest for the total price and not what is left!
Also, I sent a cheque paying off the account writing an accompanying letter to cancel the card and close the account only to receive the next statement with a £14.99 balance for Card Protection! Best part is that this was dated THREE months previously! Called to complain bitterly and was advised that Argos want you to phone them to cancel and not write like every other company. Told that they would remove this card protection (eventually after about 3 different people) and acount closed, only to receive another statement with this lot still on and a late payment charge. Yet another phone call starting with 'I want to speak to a supervisor NOW' got it sorted out - but not without the threat of legal action and demanding the cost of the calls back either.
My advice - NEVER take ANY store card, especially Argos!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!
