concilia debt collection

I had a call earlier today from this company using this name who said it is about my water debt without going through security first, the guy has an american accent. I told them they had the wrong number as I have debts but have never had a utility debt in my life. I also changed the number with Virgin Media within approx 10 min's.
I called United Utilities who said I have no debt with them, I have had a direct debit set up with them since they were brought into use, 15/20 years ago? Plus the last contact I had with them was in 2007 when I requested the hippo packs for saving water. The guy I spoke to said he would pass it onto their debt department to look into but he said it does sound like a scam cos there has to be a note on the account stating it has gone to debt collection, ther are no notes on my account. The other obvious choice is that someone has given my number as theirs.
So just a warning if anyone else get's a call like this, do not give out any information, hang up on them.
