Hi i have got a Renault Megane RT 1.4 R reg

Past two days i have heard a whining noise like nnnnnnnnnnnnrrrrrrrrrrrrrrnnnrrrrrrrrrrr when i have been driving for over a few minutes usually when i go about 30 to 40 in 4th it makes this noise but when i lift my foot of the Accelerator it stops kind of but when im not in gear or just coasting it dosnt make the noise at all.

Any Engineering type people or anyone with past experience got any ideas on what this might be.

Rick

Sounds gearbox related. Personally I'd not worry about it if it is gearbox.

It is probably the gearbox as the above posters said. It is nothing to worry about, as it is just noisy and very unlikly to break.

If you wanted to get rid of the noise it would be very expensive, as you would need to get the entire box rebuilt or replaced, but there isn't realy any point to that as the function of the box is not effected.

Going on past experience the noise will probably go away after a while, or just stay the same. Gearboxes rarely break, so it's not worth worrying about. Assumming that it is the gbox.

Just a thought: check the oil level in it and maybe have new oil put in.
