Surname spelt wrongly on bank account- Assist in reclaiming charges??

Hi on my barclays bank account and debit card they had misspelt my surname.
I got the account nearly 2years ago, and even though i had noticed the mis-spelling i never could go 1week without my card to be able to cancel it and wait for a new one.
However as they mis-spelt my name on the account, but have since then added charges to the account which is not in my actual name,
would that invalidate the charges and so i would be able to claim them back due to that error??
Thanks

Thanks.
Do you know what kinda proof i will need to be able to chnage my name on the account though??
Since i have a passport (expired though) which shows my real name,
but all my other utilities bills and stuff are for a different address to the one that the bank is registered under.0 -

Passport is out cos it is no longer valid. Driving licence?
Nah the address is of my family home, and so im fine to keep that as my bank statements address.
I dont drive though so dont have license.0 -

Nope not a student.
How comes an expired passport wont be accepted, as it still proves who i am.
And i have a few other bank statements which i could use?0 -

Simply because it's expired. Since then you could've married and changed your surname, or even changed your name by deedpoll.
Whilst you could do the same with a current passport, the chances are lower.
I fear you may need to get a new Passport in this instance. There are very few documents that the banks are ALLOWED to accept these days due to the anti-money laundering laws brought in after 9/11 and the like.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
This is taken from Halifax website, but they should all be the same:
Forms of ID we accept include:
• passport
• photographic driver's licence
• credit card statements
• utility (gas, water, electricity) bills
• council tax form
These must be originals, not photocopies.
Thinking about the Passport, another reason they wouldn't accept it is because you may have discarded this, and someone else could be trying to use it fraudulently.
The measures are a pain, but in place for your security as well as theirs.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

Would you expect passport control to accept your passport that was expired?
The bank would work on the same premise ie it's out of date and therefore an invalid form of identification.0
